Christian County, the 21st county of Kentucky, was formed in 1797
from a division of Logan County. It was named for Col. William Christian,
native Virginian, soldier, politician, and pioneer. William Christian
served as Colonel in Revolution, member Va. Legislature.
Christian County is located in the Pennyrile region of the state.
The elevation in the county ranges from 390 to 966 feet above sea level
and encompasses a land area of 721 square miles.
Hopkinsville, the seat of Christian County, was founded about 1796
and was first known as Christian Court House and Elizabeth. It was named
Hopkinsville for General Samuel Hopkins in 1804.
