Two Kentucky lovers, Mr. Thomas Cannon and Miss Nora Johnson, eloped from their homes near Hopkinsville last night, and arrived here early this morning, purchased the necessary papers and were married by Esquire James I. Holman. Immediately after the ceremony the young couple left on the 8:40 train for their home.

Mr. J.A. Easton and Miss Ada Barnes went over to Clarksville Monday and were married at the Northington House by Esquire Z. Smith. Although the bride, who is a daughter of Mr. Thomas Barnes, of near the city, is only 15 years old, the affair was not an elopement. The couple just decided to take a trip to Clarksville and have the knot tied while there. The groom is about 45 years old. They returned to this city Tuesday and will make their home near the city.

Dec 1897At Concord church in Christian Co on the 8th instant, MR. SAMUEL F. HOLLOWAY will be united in marriage to Miss TAYLOR EDWARDS. The bride is a popular young lady, was born in Graves Co. near Farmington and is a niece of Mr. Amos West of this city. She has often visitied in Mayfield and is well known to many Monitor readers. She is a sister of Mrs. Howard Stowe of Julien, Ky., who visited here a few weeks ago.

Miss Edith Hall, the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hall, of Muhlenburg County, and Kelly Atkinson, of the northern part of Christian County, were united in marriage this morning at the home of the brides' sister, Mrs. Brasher Prouse, on Jessup Avenue. Mrs. Prouse and Miss Jo Binkley were witnesses at the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. L. E. Martin. After a several day visit to relatives in this city, the popular young couple will make their home with the grooms' parents.

Mr. Rudolph Foster and Miss Christine Burke, a popular young couple of Clarksville, Tenn., were united in marriage in this city on Friday evening at 9:30 o'clock. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Powell* Shell Powell, at his home on East Seventh Street, in the presence of William Chester and Miss Brenda Halliburton, friends of the bridal couple, who accompanied them to Hopkinsville.

A wedding of much interest to social circles in the northern part of the
county is that of Miss Lucille Powell to Mr. Garland West, which was
solemnized yesterday afternoon, October 24, 1934, at two o'clock at the
Christian County courthouse, Judge W. O. Soyars officiating.The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Powell of the Fruit Hill
neighborhood, and is a graduate of Fruit Hill School. She is very popular in county society and has a wide circle of friends.Mr. West is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom West of Crofton, and is a graduate of Hopkinsville High School. He is a prominent young farmer, and has a host of friends. The couple will make their home at the farm of the bridegroom.
Dr. Oscar Wright-Carrie Jane Underwood
On Wednesday evening the 8th of January 1902 quite a number gathered at the home of Mr. J.W. Underwood near Pon to witness the marriage of Dr. O.C. Wright and Miss Carrie Underwood. Rev. Alex McCord in his impressive way pronounced the words, which united them for life. The attendants were Miss Maude Underwood and Mrs. Walter Cobb. Organist was Mrs. Henry King.
The beautiful decorations in the parlor and dining room were the work of Miss Eva Underwood, our artist of whom we are justly proud. The bride is a popular young lady for her many admirable traits of character.
The groom is one of Texas’ sons. He came to Kentucky about three years ago locating in the county. During his stay here he had enjoyed an extensive practice. He is an excellent physician and we bespeak for him a brilliant future. He has certainly been blessed in selecting one to share life’s joys with him. May their noontide and evening be as happy as it’s rosy morn. The doctor has located at Carl and they will occupy a new cottage erected at that place.

In Double Wedding Sisters Become Brides in North Christian

A double wedding was solemnized last night (September 24, 1907) at the home of James Underwood, father of the brides, at Barnes in North Christian. The contracting parties were George W. Hill and Miss Maude Susan Underwood and Winfield Madison Wood and Miss Eva Adeline Underwood. Two ceremonies were pronounced Rev. J. M. Rasnake, pastor or the Universalist Church of this city officiating. The weddings took place at 6:00 o’clock. The wedding march was played by Miss Rosa King. The brides wore white silk, made identically alike and carried white roses and smilax. The house was tastefully decorated in roses and smilax.
After the ceremony a sumptuous supper was served to the bridal party and guests. Today they will be dined at the home of Warfield Hill, father of one of the grooms, at Sinking Fork. Both couples will remain in this region until October 4th when they will leave for Phoenix, Arizona, where both grooms are engaged in business.
The marriage in each instance is the culmination of a long and ardent courtship. Both young men were born and raised near Sinking Fork, but left several years ago to make their fortunes in the west, and having succeeded in business, they came back to claim their brides.
