Blake Baker Killed When Hit By Car
Man deaf And Almost Blind Meets Tragic Death Last Thursday
Car Of Dr. N. C. Magraw Strikes Unfortunate Man And Death Follows
Mr. Blake Baker, an old man living a half mile west of the city limits of Cadiz, met a tragic death last Thursday morning between 6:30 and 7 o'clock when hit by the car of Dr. N. C. Magraw in the western section of the city of Cadiz.
Dr. Magraw had been in the country a portion of the night on a professional call. He was returning to town early Thursday morning, and seeing a man walking ahead of him in the middle of the road, honked his car as he undertook to pass him as he was entering the city limits of town.
Mr. Baker being somewhat feeble and also very dear and partially blind was evidently frightened by the honk of the car, and as it passed, in some way staggered against it. The front part did not strike him which indicates he staggered against it in some manner the man fell against the car between the two wheels, and the car threw him to the street, and the forces of the fall caused his death. Examination showed his neck to be broken which was evidently done by the force of the fall against the hard street.
Judge Ryan, who lives near where the accident occurred, was one of the first to the scene, and directed the remains be taken charge of by the undertaker. Dr. Magraw rendering such aid and calling for help.
After the remains were prepared for burial, the were taken to the home, and on Friday afternoon were buried at the Dunning grave yard three miles west of Cadiz.
Funeral services were held at the grave, conducted by Dr. W. E. Mitchell, pastor of the Cadiz Baptist church.
Mr. Baker had lived all his life in Trigg county, and was a member of one of the oldest and most honored families of the entire county. He was a man who earned his living by his daily toil, and was a king inoffensive old man.
He was sixty - eight years, three months and twenty seven days of age. He is survived by the wife, three sons and two little daughters.
The tragic death was regretted by all the people familiar with the circumstances and all sympathize with Dr. Magraw, who was much grieved by it, and also to the heart broken wife and five dependent children.

MYRTLE MC CONNELL BAKERDeath of Mrs Thomas Baker Sr.
Funeral Service Were Held at Cerulean and Burial In Cedar Hill, Princeton
(By Mrs Sallie Graham Stice) Leaves have their time to wither and fall,
And flowers to wither at the north winds breath
But thou hast all season for thine o'death
--sang Felicia Hermans long ago, and voiced a profound truth -- Still sometimes it seems that winter is death's favorite season,
especially for the aging mortal.
Last Thursday evening at about eleven o'clock death came to Mrs. Thomas BAKER Sr, at her home in Cerulean. The immediate
cause heart failure. Mrs Baker had been in ill health for several years.
Mrs Baker leaves beside her husband a stepson, Thomas Baker, Jr of Wallonia and Mrs Mary Baker, of Louisville, one sister, Mrs Hugh Overby, also of Wallonia, and a large
number of relatives, nephews, nieces and cousins, in the counties of Caldwell, Trigg and Christian. Miss Fannie McConnell, Marvin and Cary Rawls, of Cerulean, are the local kin.
The deceased was a member of the Cerulean Baptist Church since leaving Old Harmony Church at Cobb, (a very noted old church) the congregation of her earlier years.
The funeral was at the residence, Rev. David Vance, the officiating clergyman, assisted by Brother Vire, pastor of Cerulean Methodist Church.
Myrtle MC CONNELL BAKER was a native of Caldwell county living at Cobb and environs until her marriage to Mr Baker. She was a member of two large and prominent families of Caldwell, her mother being a Grooms, a cousin of "Miss Jeanie" P'Pool long the honored chatelaine of the Cerulean Hotel. She with her husband, Capt Pool, were well known all over the South, of whom all hold her in honored memory. She was a faithful member of her church, strong in her belief, charitable toward the beliefs of others -- a good neighbor always ready to do her part in any laudable activity of the community. For instance she was one of the most faithful of the Cerulean Red Cross knitters, even after her eye (due to diabetes) were so bad she had left off reading; likewise she entertained the visiting ministers of both hers and her husband's churches -- helped out with the P.T.A.
"thoroughly furnished unto every good work", even after she was unable to be so. In testimony of her sterling character, in spite of the bad weather a large crowd from the two counties and many from Christian were present at the last sad rites in her honor and an equally large assemblage followed her to her last resting place in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, at Princeton, where in the pale light of a January afternoon, they blanketed her grave with the flowers she loved. Thus the ranks of the old families are thinning, but they leave a sturdy heritage to their descendants who continue in the tradition of their fathers -- of the backbone of our America. May he who has promised to be with us all in our grief and loneliness comfo
