MADISONVILLE, Ky. — James D. “J.D.” Cartwright, 74, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, of cancer at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
He retired from the P&M Coal Co., as a coal miner at the Colonial Mines and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of the Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church and sang with the Cartwight Brothers Gospel Group.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Ruth Beddow of Beaver Dam; two sons, Mikel James and Jeffery Lynn, both of Madisonville; two sisters, Lois Finson of Madisonville and Sylvia Hammelton of Rabbit Ridge; three brothers, Hugh and Warren, both of Madisonville, and Wayne of El Paso, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
His wife, Margaret Ruth (Burden) died in 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with entombment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
