Joe Crute Claimed By Death AT 64
Splendid Citizen Victim Of Dropsy And Heart Affection Last Friday
Death Came Suddenly Although He Had Not Been Well For Some Months
Mr. Joseph C. Crute, one of Trigg county's most splendid citizens, died last Friday afternoon at 3:30 at his home three miles south of Cadiz.
Mr. Crute had been suffering from a heart affection for almost a year, and for some time had kept close to his home. However, when the end came he was sitting in his home talking to a friend, and instantly breath left him and he quietly passed away. A heart affection and dropsy caused his death.
Mr. Crute was sixty-four years of age the 20th of last May. He was the son of the late James R. Crute and had lived all his life in Trigg county.
In the fall of 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Virginia Wilkins, daughter of N. B. Wilkins, a leading farmer of the county, and the wife and four children survive him. The children are Roy Crute, of South Fork, Pa; Lois Crute, of Detroit; and Mrs. Johnnie Thomas and Mrs. Rubie Barnett, of Trigg county.
He is also survived by three brothers and one sisters - Mrs. James D. Guier and Ed S. Crute, of Cadiz; William D. Crute, several miles south of Cadiz, and James L. Crute, of Graves county.
He united with the Baptist church in 1881 and from the time lived a devoted Christian life. Few men in all Trigg county stood higher for honor and fair dealing than Joe Crute and he was a man held in highest esteem by all who knew him.
Funeral was held Monday morning at ten o'clock at Dyer's Chapel, four miles west of town, services being conducted by Rev. John T. Cunningham of Princeton. Burial followed at the Lawrence grave yard near the church.
Among those at the funeral and burial from a distance were the son, Roy Crute, of South Fork, Pa; Clyde Wilkins and sister, nephew and niece, of Louisville; and two brothers in law, Rev. Peter H. Harris and Mrs. Hanks Wilkins, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.

John R. Crute Called By Death
Heart Affection caused Death Of One Of Trigg's Most Splendid Citizens
Born In 1850 And His Entire Life Had Been Spent In Trigg County
Mr. John R. Crute, one of Trigg county's most highly respected citizens, died at his home three miles west of Cadiz last Sunday morning at four o'clock of heart affection.
Mr. Crute had not been in the best of health for several years, but had continued to look after his farm and other business matters. The immediate illness that resulted in the death was of a week's duration.
Mr. Crute was born in Trigg county on October 17th, 1850 and was the oldest of a family of eight children of the late James R. and Matilda Dyer Crute - five sons and three daughters.
One sister, Mrs. R. E. Grigsby died a number of years ago, and the surviving brothers and sisters are: James L. Crute, of Graves county; William D, Joe C., and Ed S. Crute, Mrs. James D. Guier and Mrs. Fannie Garnett, all of Trigg county.
Mr. Crute had spend his entire life in Trigg county.
In November, 1877, Mr. Crute was united in marriage to Miss Nannie Miller, and the wife and five daughters survive. Two sons died in infancy and the five surviving daughters are: Mrs. Joe Light and Mrs. Tom Mitchell and Misses Mary Maude and Irma Crute, all of Trigg county.
Mr. Crute united with the Baptist church in early life and for many years had held his membership at Oak Grove.
Mr. Crute took special interest in his church and the Christian religion, and was always on the better side of propositions coming among the people. He lived a clean life, stood for clean citizenship and clean government, and was a man whom all people who knew him liked. He was a quiet man, but a good man, and in his death the county has lost one of its very best citizens; his wife and children an indulgent and devoted husband and father, and his community a loyal friend and a good neighbor.
For a number of years Mr. Crute resided a mile north of town on a farm, now owned by J. Frank Ladd. More than thirty years ago he bought the farm and moved to the place where he died, and had since resided there.
Funeral and burial took place Monday afternoon at the grave yard on the Walter Miller farm two mils west of Cadiz, a large number of devoted friends and sorrowing relatives being present.
Rev. Guy Hall, of Wallonia, conducted the funeral service, and Mr. Crute was buried in the same suit of clothes he was married in forty seven years ago.
