GOWEN
GOWEN: - John B. Gowen died at his residence in this city, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, in the 75th year of his age.
He was a man of many virtures. His deeds of kindness have often come to the distressed like visitations of Providence.
It was his custom to visit the sick and afflicted, to administer to the needy and to befriend the poor. Often has he been honored by his fellow citizens. He served as sheriff of this county and accepted other public trusts and served one term as postmaster.
The funeral took place at the residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J.W. Lewis conducting the ceremonies.
AT his request he was buried with Masonic honors. He follows his wife by a few days and steps upon the eternal shore before the echo of her foot fall has been silenced on this earth.
