Harper G. Merrick, 86, of Newburgh, Ind. and formerly of Trigg County, died Saturday, Nov. 29, (1997), at 1:30 a.m. at Newbrgh Health Care Center in Newburgh, In. following a long illness.
A retired farmer and member of Cadiz United Methodist Church, he was born Nov. 29, 1911 in Trigg County, a son of the late Fred Elwood Merrick, Sr. and "Ella" Eliza Childress Merrick.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Edward Merrick; two brothers, Robert Merrick and Fred Elwood Merrick, Jr.; and a two sisters, Edna Taylor of Cadiz and Minnie Swatzell of Princeton.
Burial followed in Merrick Cemetery in Caldwell County, Ky.

Necie Ann Childress Merrick was born January 16 1857; died January 31 1945 at 88 years of age.
She was married to Ezekiel Merrick on May 22, 1878. To them eight children were born, one passed away in infancy.
Those who survive are Mrs. Fred Merrick, Mrs. Jocie Pearl Hollowell of Cadiz: Roy Merrick, Mrs. Archie Boyd of Princeton, William Thomas and Charlie of this Community. A daughter Mrs. Edd Fox of Nortonville preceded her in death several years ago. She reared four stepchildren Mrs. Ambie Merrick of Trigg County, Mrs. Dinah Swatzell of Nashville ; both Lee and Taylor Merrick proceded her in death.
She professed faith in Christ in early age and remained a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church until her death. She made her home with William Thomas and was a kind loving mother to all. She was alway ready to help and serve those who were in need.
She leaves to mourn her passing 67 grandchildren 65 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren; Also on brother J. T. Childress of Providence.
She had 5 grandchildren in service and 4 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren were also loyal and never grew tired of serving her.
She was laid to rest in the family grave-yard near her home underneath a large mound of flowers.
A large number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends mourn her passing.
Pallbearers were: William Thomas, Roy, Charlie and David Merrick, Clint Mitchell and Bryant Oliver.
Flower girls were: Mrs. Clifton Dunn, Mrs. Truman Cunningham, Minnie Swatzell, Virginia, Pearl, Lillian and Florence Merrick.
Out of town firiends were Mrs. Clifton Dunn, Mrs. Archie Fox, Mrs. Walter Burks, Mr and Mrs Bryant Oliver of Hopkinsville; Willis Mallory and Mrs. Walter------ of Evansville, Indiana.
