Ellen Eliza Gilkey Payne, 81, Hopkinsville, Ky.
Died Thursday 1 September 1983 at Jennie Stuart Hospital.
Born 21 December 1901 in Christian Co., daughter of Cordie and Melissa Moore Gilkey.
Member of Grace Epsicopal Church. Husband, William Edward Payne, died in 1965, a son, William Lee Payne, died in 1923.
Survivors: two sons, Paul Edward Sr. and Nathan Edward Payne both of Hopkinsville; two daughters, Mrs. Durwood (Ella Juanita) Woosley of Hopkinsville and Mrs. Durwood (Dorothy Dell) Johnson of Beaumont, Tex.; one brother, Raymond Gilkey of Louisville; one sister, Eva Lee Hyde of Paducah; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Services: Saturday 3 September 1983, burial in Riverside Cem. Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.

Pennyrile Deaths April 15, 1999
Services for Dr. Gabe A. Payne, 80, Cadiz, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Hopkinsville, with the Revs. Phillip Salmon and James S. McKenzie officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville.
He died at 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, Tenn; from complications with bacterial spinal meningitis.
A native of Hopkinsville he was born December 6, 1918.  He was the son of the late Gabe Aubrey Payne, Sr. and his wife, the late Annie Faxon Payne.  He was a pediatrician, employed with The Pediatric Associates, former in the 1960s, a member of Cadiz Baptist Church and a member of the Reserved Officers Training Corps.
Survivors include his wife Maybelle Paxton Payne; three daughters, Katherine Morris, Murray, Karolyn Bell, Clemson, S.C. and Annie Nicastro, Chantilly Va; a brother Dr. Faxon Payne, Nashville; and five grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Expression of sympathy may take the form of donations to either the Pediatric Department at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, the Peyton Thurman Scholarship or the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.

Another murder was committed in this county yesterday.
At a church gathering near Olmstead, a negro named Work Jeffries became involved in a difficulty with another negro names Henry Payne, which resulted in Payne being stabbed and almost instantly killed.

Born 18 September 1864.
Married twice, the second wife being Mrs. Nell Mitchell 26 January 1918. Member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, one brother, Lewis Payne of Mt. Zoar, Ky.;
several nieces and nephews.
Services: Tuesday 4 September 1945, burial in Riverside Cem.

JAMES PAYNE

             FRANKLIN, Ky. -- James ''Sugar'' Payne Sr.,
             79, Franklin, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8,
             2000, at his home of natural causes.

             Services were to be at 1 this afternoon at the
             Elevated Baptist Church. Burial was to be in Shady
             Rest Cemetery. Burnam and Son Mortuary,
             Madisonville, is in charge of arrangements.

             A native of Simpson County, he was born Dec. 17,
             1920, the son of the late Wil and Lummie Nixon
             Payne. He was a building contractor and was a
             World War II Coast Guard veteran. He was a
             member of the Elevated Baptist Church.

             Survivors include two sisters, Virginia Briggs,
             Franklin, and Nancy Drew, Detroit, Mich.

Ninnion Brasher Payne, 76, Christian Co., Ky.
Died Wednesday 18 Feb 1953.
Retired farmer, member of Sinking Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors: one sister-in-law, Mrs. George Payne; one niece, Mrs. Lovan Ferrell; and two nephews, Ollie and Bryan Fowler all of Christian Co.
Services: Thursday 19 Feb 1953, burial Brick Church Cemetery.

VIRGINIA WARD PAYNE

SLAUGHTERS -- Virginia Ward Payne, 81, Slaughters, formerly of Henderson, died at 8 p.m. Monday at Colonial Terrace
Nursing Home in Sebree.
A member of Slaughters United Methodist Church, she was a retired Slaughters Business Woman, having owned various
rental properties in the Slaughters area. She had also worked at the General Electric aircraft engine plant in Madisonville for several years and was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thorp, who died in 1989.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Sue Bellamy of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Charles Payne and Danny Payne, both of Slaughters; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Slaughters-Hanson Chapel. The Revs. David Blair and
Bernard Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Onton Cemetery in Onton.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Antony's Hospice of Dixon.

INFANT OF W. T. PAYNE

An infant of Mr. W. T. Payne, of Trenton, died at the home of his parents. Monday. The child had been sick for several days.
