PERRYMRS PERRY
ABBY BROWN PERRY
WILLIAM HAYDON PERRY
MRS PERRYThe funeral of Mrs. Perry was held at Grace Episcopal church Saturday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, Rev. J.W. Venable officiating.
The ministers of the city attended in a body, and a large gathering of friends followed the remains to the grave. Dr. Venable's discourse was a chaste and tasteful review of the life and character of his consecrated parishioner, and his words and the occasion, were beautiful solemn because of the sad loss our community had sustained. Just at sunset the remains were laid in the grave and the devoted life of Mrs. Perry went out with the evening shadows

ABBY BROWN PERRYDeath of Mrs. Abby Brown Perry
Thursday morning at 6 o'clock Mrs. Abby Brown Perry, relict of the Rev. Gideon Babcock Perry D.D.,L.L.D., closed a beautiful life of 82 years, lacking five days, and a residence of 20 years in the city, after an illness of two weeks.
The deceased was born in Brookfield, N.Y. and was married to Rev. Dr. G.B. Perry in 1823. For 57 years she served faithfully with her consecrated husband in the "vineyard of the Lord," doing memorable service at important charges throughout the country, as at New York, New Bedford, N.Y. Philadelphia, Alton, Cleveland, St. Louis, Natchez and other large cities. Since the death of her husband, which occurred in this city in 1879, she has lived the same devoted, consecrated life.
She was the mother of four children three of whom are left behind, Miss Emily B. Perry, Rev. Henry G. Perry, of Chicago, Ill., Mr. Willis G. Perry, of Chicago, Ill., Mr. Willis G. Perry, and an adopted daughter, Miss Maria Efnor.
The devotion of these children to the aged mother was beautiful and exemplary and their grief is deep and profound. Mrs. Perry was a lovable character. She was tender, gentle, kind, loving, sympathetic, quiet in her character and constant in duty serving the Lord. When the news of her illness was reported her home was a scene of grief enacted by a large number of devoted friends who had learned to love her.
She was a friend to the young, and the little children swarmed about her bedside to cheer her in her fatal illness. Such indeed is the record of a noble life which is not all gone out and the silent influence of which will be manifest in the gentleness and uprightness of the coming generation. At 4 o'clock Thursday morning the summons came. Quietly the soul took its flight and the gloom of grief settled thick upon the afflicted family. May Providence as gentle as the mother's love visit and sustain the grief stricken ones, and may the glories she is now enjoying in the other land be reflected into the saddened hearts of those left behind to comfort and console them.
The funeral services will be held at Grace Episcopal church this afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, the interment taking place at the city cemetery. As she is placed in the grave may the angels that do sentinel duty over her tomb lighten the burden of grief of those who laid her away to her eternal rest.
