RABYE
HELEN S. RABYEHelen S. Rabye, who served as director of volunteer service at Community Methodist Hospital for 10 years, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday at Welborn Hospital in Evansville. She was 67.
Mrs. Rabye, of 70 South Green St., died of congestive heart failure after being admitted to the hospital Wednesday, according to a hospital spokesman.
A past president of the hospital auxiliary, she began as a hospital volunteer and went on to become the hospitals first salaried director of volunteer services. When she resigned as director in 1978, she had been active in the auxiliary and in volunteer service for 20 years.
:Its hard for me to find words to express the contribution she made," Ron Chapman, executive director of Community Methodist Hospital, said Friday. "She really worked a to establish what is probably one of the best auxiliary programs in the state. Other hospitals called on her to help them set up programs. She earned respect both here at the hospital and across the state for her work."
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry. She was chairman of the mission and outreach committee, chairman of the gifts and memorials Committee, a member of the Alter Guide and a member of the Women of the Cpach. ?
Mrs. Rabye, also was involved in the Mary Anne Hendrick blood center of the local Red Cross chapter and was a member to the National Cancer Society.
She is survived by her husband, Willis S. Rabye; three grandchildren, Margaret Ann Romans of Henderson, Elizabeth Ann Brenton of Olean, N.Y. and Willis S. Hope of Jacksonville, N. C.; one brother, John C. Smock of Victoria, Texas; one sister, Anna L. Hansard of Eufaula, Okla.; cousins and nephews. Daughter's Mary Elaine Brendan died in 1972, and Martha Ann Hope in 1976.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Tom Dally officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The body will be taken to the church at noon.
Pallbearers will be John Conn, Ken Koehler, Rip Van Winkle, Bill Beck, Chuck Snyder and Bob Soaper.
Friends may call at Bentor-Glunt Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. today.
