MRS JAMES RENSHAW
The wife of Mr. James Renshaw died Thursday night. She was an estimable lady and her friends deeply deplore the sad event.
Hopkinsville New Era
May 1887
Mrs. Martha Renshaw, wife of James Renshaw, of the Sinking Fork neighborhood, after a painful illness of several weeks, closed the last and all that was mortal of this life on the 12th of May last, and as a friend of this most excellent lady and her many friends, I feel it my duty, however feeble it may be, to offer a tribute of respect to the occasion of this sad departure, when this wife, mother, friend and neighbor was called from the midst of the family and circle of friends among whom she had so pleasantly dwelt and amid whom she had shed a ray of Christian light that will never fade from the memories of her friends so dear.
Mrs. Renshaw as one of the best, no blest and purest woman that ever lived and graced our fair land; wherever she dwelt happiness and contentment were found; for she was a model woman; her presence was a comfort to all; her life was a great history to study, and a noble example to follow. It has been my pleasure to know Mrs. Renshaw for a number of years, and a more honest faithful woman I never knew. She, like most of us, had many crosses to beat in this life, but like a true soldier of the cross she marched on to triumph and to victory. This fond mother leaves three lovely daughters and one son, to live on and on through this life without even a mother's smiles or soothing words of comfort to cheer them on through this rugged life and unfriendly world. Yes, a fond mother makes more sunshine and happiness in this life for a child than all other earthly pleasures combined. In sickness mother is our greatest comfort and best nurse; when troubles of any kind assail us no matter how much we may be to fault, mother comes to our relief. She always looks over our faults, misgivings and shortcomings, and always the first to forgive and forget and offer a helping hand. No one like mother to do all these things for us and minister to our wants, and make the rough places smooth through life. But alas! Mother is gone. Gone to that bright and better land. To that Home long sought for and where all is fairer than day. Where her loved ones gone before are waiting with loving smiles and Heavenly vision. (etc)
O' breathe Mother's name as she sleeps in the shade,
Where cold and calm her body was laid;
Sad, silent and pure to the last tears we shed,
As the night-dew that falls on the grass o'er her head.
But the night-dew that falls, thought in silence it weeps,
Shall brighten with verdure the grass where she sleeps,
And the tear that we shed, though in secret it rolls,
Shall long keep her memory green in our souls.

MRS ROBERT RENSHAWDeath from Haye's Chapel
It becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of the wife of Robert Renshaw, which occurred on the night of November 24th.
She was a most estimable lady, and her loss is deeply felt by a host of friends, who tender their closest sympathy to the bereaved husband and children. May the light of her striking example, which shone so clearly forth, be to them as the guiding star to the traveler in the wilderness.
Her father, Mr. Hodgin Page, is very sick at the present
writing.
