Mrs. Mattie Roberts, a prominent lady of Tobaccoport, Tenn., and wife of the late Finus S. Roberts, died Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 at her home in Tobaccoport, after a lingering illness of more than a year.
Mrs. Roberts suffered a severe attack of pneumonia more than a year ago. An operations to relieve the trouble was followed by other complications and a throat trouble has since bothered her, from which she never recovered.
Mrs. Roberts was sixty three years of age, and a Miss Hicks before her marriage to Mr. Roberts forty one years ago, the husband having died seven years ago the 10th of this month.
She was a member of the Methodist church and the Linton chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a splendid lady, respected and admired for her many womanly virtues, and to know her was to be her friend.
An only brother died more than thirty year ago, and six children survive her, as follows: George Roberts, a teacher of White House, Tenn.; Sam J. Roberts, the banker of Cerulean Springs, and Earl and Billy Roberts, Mrs. Robert Brandon, Mrs. Claude Hamilton, of Stewart county.

HOMER ROBERTSHomer Roberts Dies Monday
At Home farm, Near Cerulean --
Burial in Christian County
(Mrs Sallie Graham Stice)
Once again the Rider of the Pale Horse has visited us. This morning (Jan 22, '45) and took away with him all that was
mortal of our young farmer neighbor, Homer Roberts -- leaving in his wake a heart broken young widow and five
young children.
Mr Roberts had been a sick man for a year or more --for several weeks of the year in a Bowling Green Hospital. He returned a few weeks ago, not visibly improved, lost ground steadily until this morning, when he was released from his suffering.
He was a son of Mr and Mrs John Roberts, both of whom died in the year just past. He leaves besides his immediate family, a sister, Mrs Albert Larkin, of Cerulean, and Mr Elmer Roberts, a partner with Homer in the Roberts' farm a few miles out from Cerulean, besides many relatives and the whole neighborhood of friends.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church since boyhood and the funeral will be in the Cerulean Methodist Chapel,
Rev. J.J. Jenkins, of the Baptist Church across the way and a personal friend, will deliver the funeral sermon and officiated otherwise.
The last rites will be observed at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon after which the remains will be taken to the Lander burying grounds, Christian county, for interment. The remains lie now at the home of his sister, Mrs Albert Larkin and Mr Larkin, from which the funeral procession will go to the church and on to the grave.
The deceased was forty-four years old, was born in Illinois, near Johnson City, his father being a native
of that state. His mother was a member of the prominent Wood family of this section, descendants of the pioneer
Woods, who settled Trigg and Christian counties. A worthy descendent was Homer, a quiet, undemonstrative, order
loving worthy young citizen, that the county can ill spare. It does not seem out of place to say he was one more victim
of the dread plague, tuberculosis to which we sacrifice so many of our brightest and best. Let us all work and pray
that a cure may be discovered that may rid the world of this scourge. The sympathy of all goes out to the mother and
her three boys and two girls all under thirteen years of age.. May he who has promised to be the comforter to the
widows and the fatherless be with them in their great loss, and also to the grief stricken younger sister, who has had
to send her mother and now this brother from her own home to their last resting place -- and to the brother who has
carried on for them both, through this long year of illness --They have their reward "Blessed are they that mourn, for
they shall be comforted."
