ABRAMS, GRACE DEXTER GEVEDON
Grace Dexter Gevedon Abrams, of West Liberty, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty at the age of 105 years, 5 months, and 25 days. She was born on Tuesday, September 4, 1900 at Panama, Kentucky , the eleventh child born to Berry and Artie Perry Gevedon. Grace was united in marriage to Leonard Adams on Thursday, February 17, 1921. To this union, four children were born, Deward, Elmer, Faye, and Jimmy. In later years, she met and married Avery Abrams. She was a born again Christian being saved and baptized in 1921, and had been a member of the Centerville Enterprise Baptist Church for 85 years. She was also a member of Eastern Star Paulina Chapter # 360 for 28 years. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Berry and Artie Gevedon ; her husbands, Leonard Adams and Avery Abrams ; two sons, Deward Adams and Elmer Adams ; a daughter, Faye Allen ; also ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include one son, Jimmy and wife Juanita ; one daughter-in-law, Betty Adams, all of West Liberty . She leaves eight grandchildren, Danny Allen and wife Alma of Ashland, Kentucky, Linda Bentley and husband Wendell of Tennessee, Mike Allen and wife Lise of Coal Grove, Ohio, Richard Adams of Winchester, Tommy Adams and wife Mary of Tennessee, David Adams and wife Sandy of Ezel, Larry Adams of Georgetown, Nancy Speigle and husband Benny of Lexington ; 7 great-grandchildren ; 2 great-great-grandchildren ; several step great-grandchildren ; and a host of nieces , nephews, and cousins. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4 at Potter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Cook officiating. Burial followed in Flatwoods Cemetery at Woodsbend with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were her grandsons.

ADKINS, DONALD E.
Donald Edward Adkins, 70, of Cannel City, died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Veterans Medical Center in Lexington following a lengthy illness. Mr. Adkins was born March 10,1935 in Elliott County, Kentucky a son of the late Lonnie D. and Adkins and Audra Whitt Adkins. He was a retired maintenance department employee of General Electric , a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Adkins. Survivors include his wife, Carol Sue Finch Adkins to whom he was united in marriage to on April 3, 1962 ; two sons, Leonard D. and Shonna Adkins and Gregory D. and Ellen Adkins, all of Cannel City ; three sisters, Lovena and Wayne Bolinton, Carol Jean Ratliff, and Joyce Ann Reynolds, all of Bright, Indiana ; three grandchildren, Joshua Scott and Carol Adkins, Chadwick Ryan Adkins, Makayla Nicole Adkins ; two step-grandchildren, Alex Craft and Austin Craft. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 15 at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Chapel with Elder Donovan Finch and Elder Rick Howard officiating. Burial followed in the Burton Fork Cemetery at Cutuno, Kentucky with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by Morgan County D.A.V. Pallbearers were family and friends.

AKERS, CALLIE S.
Callie Sallie Akers, 91, of Lee City, died Sunday, November 27,2005 at Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson. She was born January 30,1914 in Wolfe County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Jim Sallie and Martha Hampton Sallie. Callie was a homemaker and member of the First Church of God. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Akers ; five sons, Keith Allen , Dorsie, Curt, Billy, and Elmer Akers ; two daughters, Pheoba Trusty and Alma Craig ; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Viola Mills of Baxter, Georgia, Geraldine Brown of Ezel, and Shirley Kimelton of Grassy Creek ; two sons, John Akers and James Orbin Akers, both of Lee City ; and a stepson, Edwin Akers of Cattletsburg ; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 30 at House of Hope Church with Rev. Ricky Salley officiating. Burial followed in the Salley Cemetery at Lee City with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons and friends.

ALLEN, PHILLIP V.
Phillip Vinson Allen, 63, of Mount Sterling, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at his home. Born November 9, 1942 in Magoffin County, Kentucky he was a son of the late James Monroe and Liddie Taulbee Allen. He was a self-employed salesman and member of the Church of the Living God. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Stanley Allen and William Knovie Allen ; three sisters, Opal Mae Pugh , Vernell Allen, and Vernie Marie Allen. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Williams Allen of Mount Sterling ; two daughters, Lisa Wolfe of Winchester and Tina Overstreet of Mount Sterling ; a son, Stephen Phillip Allen of Mount Sterling ; four grandchildren, Matthew Overstreet, Emily Wolf, and Alyssa and Taylor Allen ; three sisters, Cora Faye Allen and Maudie Prater, both of Mount Sterling, and Joyce Short of Bath County, and two brothers, Mitchell and Donnie Allen , both of Mount Sterling. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Church of the Living God with Rev. Tom Hall officiating. Burial was in the Williams Cemetery with Herald and Stewart Home For Funerals, of Mount Sterling, in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Danny and John Woodward, Michael Short, Carrol Ray Pugh, Ralph Prater, Bennie Allen, Jeff and Chris Amburgey, Junior Williams and Greg Caskey. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Williams, Darrel and Doug Caskey, Tony Shoupe, Dennis and Keith Prater, Harold Pugh, Casten Clay Pugh, Jeff and Marty Short, and Larry, Tony, Ronnie and Dobbie Allen.

AMYX, ANDREW H.
Andrew Harold Amyx, 77 , of Venice, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005. Andy, the oldest of four children was born to loving parents, Loy Brack and Elizabeth Amyx on January 19,1928 in Middletown,Ohio. He moved to Venice from Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1976. Andy was a graduate from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois in advertising. Prior to his broadcasting career he served as Boy Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a market research manager and promotion director for Time-Life Broadcast stations WOOD-TV-AM/FM. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Doran during the World War II emergency program. He was a member of Variety Club International, Rotary, National Broadcaster Promotion Association, Advertising Club of America, Whos Who In America in Advertising, Venice Elks, the Board of Directors for South Venice Fire Department and Myakla Pines Golf Club. On TV he portrayed Bozo the Clown, Pedals the Clown, Chico the Clown, and was a TV spokesperson for Sunbeam Company. Andy was an author of a humorous book and other articles of human interest. He was a Catholic and member of the Epiphany Cathedral Church. Survivors include his devoted wife and best friend, Marilyn, of 53 years of marriage ; daughter, Cynthia Amyx Kloster of Baton Rouge, Louisiana ; two sons, Daniel Amyx of Fort Pierce, Florida and Timothy Amyx of Grand Rapids, Michigan. His pride and joy are his four grandchildren, Steven Kloster, Justin Amyx, Nathan Avey, and Elizabeth Amyx. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were suggested to the Heart and Lung Association. Those who had the priviledge of knowing our beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather have been blessed with his humor and kindness. We will miss him but will see him again in the hereafter. Private services will be held at a later date.
