GIBBS, JOHN A.
John Andrew Gibbs, son of the late Jeptha and Rebecca Nickell Gibbs and widower of the late Mable Spicer Gibbs was born April 17, 1911 and departed this Friday, October 28, 2005 at the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 11 days. He was born on Gilmore in Wolfe County, Kentucky, was a member of the Daysboro Church of Christ, and was a retired farmer. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, and sisters Ruth, Mae, Ruby and Frances. Survivors include two sons, Mike Gibbs and wife Kathy of Hazel Green and Robert Gibbs and wife Wanda of Gilmore ; one sister, Rosie Rudd of Hazel Green ; grandchildren Rebecca, Jessica, John and Paula ; great-grandchildren John, Jason, Mason and Cameron ; foster children Basil, Robert, Ann and Henry Tolson. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 31 at Daysboro Church of Christ with Bro. Kenneth Burnette officiating. Burial followed in the Gibbs Family Cemetery on Gilmore with Porter and Son Funeral Directors of Campton in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were George Dickey, Bernie Gibbs, Ray Gibbs, Gary Dunn, Kermit Morrison, Kenneth Amburgey and Deweese Wilson.

GIBSON, MARSHALL
Marshall Gibson, 84, of Highway 976, West Liberty, died Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty. Born November 14, 1921 in Forked Mouth, Kentucky in Perry County, Marshall was a son of the late Tester and Rellie Bowling Gibson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and businessman, a former postal system employee, and former employee of the Kentucky Highway Transportation Department. Marshall was a member of the Assembly of Faith Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah Standafer Gibson ; one son, Len Gibson ; two brothers, Elmer Gibson and Ray Gibson. Survivors include his wife, Opal Faley Pieratt Gibson ; three children, Phyliss Gibson Mayfield and husband Ernie of Waynesville, Indiana, Larry Marshall Gibson of West Liberty, and Sandra Gibson Pelfrey and husband Farrell of West Liberty ; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 22 at Asembly of Faith Church, Highway 519, West Liberty with Rev. Harold Davis and Rev. Eugene Haney officiating. Burial followed in the Ezel Cemetery at Exel with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by Morgan County D.A.V. Pallbearers were Jeff Gibson, Todd Gibson, John Pelfrey, Jasen Gibson, Travis Gibson, Tye Gibson, Robbie Cox, and Alan Oldfield.

GILLIAM, DEARL
Dearl Gilliam, 81, of Springfield, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Dearl was born July 14, 1924 to Marion and Maryjane Atkins Gilliam at Crockett, Kentucky. He worked for International Harvester for 31 years, and was a World War II veteran. Dearl was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, and VFW Post 1031. Dearl is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Charlotte ( Dobie ) Gilliam ; a son, Allen Gilliam and wife Anita ; a son-in-law, David Dwelly ; granddaughter, Vanessa Gilliam ; sister, Arlene Sutton ; special nieces, Lorene Duncan, Linda Kusior and husband Joe, Dottie Stevens, and Cindy Haddix ; great-nephew, Ryan Haddix ; several other nieces and nephews, and his precious kitty, Little Bit. Dearl was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sylvia Dwelly ; four brothers, Virgil, Stanley, Brasque, and Opal Gilliam; one sister, Jewel Wolfenbarber ; and a special nephew, Andy Haddix. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 3 at Jackson, Lyle and Williams Funeral Home in Springfield, Ohio with Rev. Walter Mock officiating. Interment followed in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle, Ohio.

GILLIAM, JUDITH
Judith Kay Howard Gilliam, 62, of Hwy. 172, West Liberty, died Thursday, November 10,2005 at her residence. Born December 25, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, Judith was a daughter of the late Galen Howard and Kathryn Kazee Howard. She was a homemaker, and member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah`s Witnesses, West Liberty. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Granville Howard. Survivors include her husband, William Paul Gilliam ; five sons, Mike Denington of Waverly, Iowa, Johnathan DeLong of West Milford, West Virginia, Steven Cantrell of Crockett, James W. Herbert Gilliam and William Craig Gilliam , both of Fairborn, Ohio ; three daughters, Mary Smith of Mt. Sterling, Kimberly DeLong of Crockett, and Paula Frances Gilliam of Fairborn , Ohio; one brother, Lawrence Howard of California ; two sisters, Doris McElhone of West Liberty and Virginia Beers of Crockett ; 14 grandchildren ; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 13 at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with minister Randy Russell officiating. Burial followed in the Ison Cemetery at Crockett with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were friends and relatives.

GOODPASTER, SUSIE
Susie Haney Goodpaster, 96 , of West Liberty , went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, October 21, 2005. Born in Morgan County, Kentucky on August 15, 1909 she was a daughter of the late Emmitt and Drotha Ferguson Haney. She was the wife of the late Ray Goodpaster whom she married on January 6, 1928. She was born again at age 18 at the Grassy Lick Baptist Church and was baptisted in the Grassy Creek in December, 1926. She was a true example of a Christian her whole life and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Susie was a member of the First Church of God, West Liberty, Kentucky. Survivors include two daughters, Nellie Cain of Mount Sterling, Kentucky and Patty Puckett and husband Rodney of Liberty, Indiana ; two sons, Alan Goodpaster and wife Jane and Randall Goodpaster of West Liberty. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren ; 26 great-grandchildren ; and 3 great-great-grandchildren ; and her meny other relatives and friends. She also has two surviving brothers, Troy Haney of Lexington and Lonis Haney of Orando, Florida. In addition to her parents and husband, Susie was preceded in death by three children, Ray Goodpaster Jr., Dolph Goodpaster and Mary Jo Goodpaster ; also 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The hope that she had and left as her testimony can be repeated with the words of Jesus from St. John II, 25 and 26, “ I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die .” Surely it can be said of Susie : “ yet she lives. “ Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial followed in Grassy Lick Cemetery, Grassy Creek with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Wayne Ray, Jeff Hammonds, Brandon Ray, Glenn Jones, Aaron Goodpaster, Alex Goodpaster. Honorary pallbearers were Glennis Goodpaster, Cecil Marks, Bob Youell, Ryan Youell, David Gardener and Dan Ragle.

GROVES, ROBERT N. JR.
Robert Nathaniel Groves Jr., 25, of Harold, Kentucky, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Pike County Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1981 in Cincinnati, Ohio a son of Robert Groves Sr. and Erma Fields Groves. Robert was a deputy jailer in Pike County, Kentucky, graduated from Pike County Central where he played football. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister, Brittany Kayla Groves of Harold ; and his paternal grandmother, Betty P. Fish of London, Kentucky. Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Helton Cemetery at Denniston with Menifee Home for Funerals of Frenchburg in charge of arrangements.

GULLETT, DR. CHARLES E.
Dr. Charles Eugene Gullett, 80, of Louisville died there Thursday, February 23,2006 at Baptist East Hospital. Born October 25, 1925 in West Liberty, Kentucky, Dr. Gullett was a retired University of Louisville Dental School professor ( 1972 – 1993 ). Prior to teaching at U of L , he was in private dental practice with his father and brother in West Liberty from 1954 – 1972. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and was a 1954 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 – 1946. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist where he was a member of the Adventurers Sunday School Class. He had battled cancer over the past 17 years. His life was a legacy of love, faith, and trust in God`s plan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Asa and Lutie Gullett ; his brothers, Norman Gullett, Dr. Stanley Gullett, Dr. Asa Gullett, Jr., and Dr. Ralph Gullett ; and his sisters, Mary Cook and Myrtle Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Steele Gullett; and his children, Lucinda ( William ) Drescher of Syracuse, N.Y. , Anna Lee ( Bill ) Morris of Simpsonville, Kentucky and Charlie ( Carol ) Gullett of Lexington, Kentucky. He was blessed with ten much loved grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Christ Church United Methodist with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
