Flossie Pratt Hamilton, 92 , of Richmond Health and Rehabilitation Center formerly of West Liberty, died Saturday, November 5 , 2005 at her residence. She was born October 29, 1913 in Knott County, Kentucky a daughter of the late Wilburn Pratt and Pearly Maggard Pratt. Flossie was a member of Richmond First Church of God and was a retired employee of U. K. Survivors include one son, Winston Hamilton of Mount Sterling ; two daughters, Laquetta H. Brandenburg of Richmond and Nancy Lee H. Reynolds of Okeechobee, Florida ; three sisters, Roncie Lykins of Texas, Jean Blair and Zola Lykins , both of White Oak ; 8 grandchildren ; and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Glenn Campbell officiating. Burial in the Machpelah Cemetery with Taul Funeral Homes, Inc of Mount Sterling in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Roger Reynolds, Scott Hamilton, Eric Brandenburg, Marc Brandenburg , Les Moore and Joey Cain.

HAMILTON, LILLIE L.
Lillie Lowe Hamilton, 89, of West Liberty, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at West Liberty Nursing and Rehabilation Center in West Liberty. Born August 7,1916 Lillie was the daughter of the late William Ireland and Annie Leslie Lowe. She attended elementary and high school in Pikeville and attended one year at Pikeville College. Lillie was a homemaker and had worked several years with the University of Kentucky Extension Service. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and also was a member of the Elkfork Chapter of the Eastern Star. She and her late husband and children enjoyed traveling and had traveled the entire United States. Lillie was a devoted Mother and dotting Grandmother and loved her family and friends. She also had something good to say about everyone. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hager of 63 years and her five brothers, John Lowe, Floyd Lowe, Landy Lowe, James Lowe, and Sparrell Lowe; and one sister, Allene Lowe Smith. Survivors include four children, Kenneth Hamilton and wife Audrey of Lexington, Ronnie Hamilton and wife Sherri, Alice Ann Franklin and husband Stanley and Scotty Hamilton and wife Deborah, all of West Liberty ; six grandchildren, Larry Hamilton, Kristi Collins, Stanya Lee Williams, Darby Franklin, LeeAnna Vaughn, and Brandon Hamilton ; eleven great-grandchildren, Mark Kenneth Hamilton, Kara Ellen Hamilton, Laryn Chase Hamilton, Hunter Clay Collins, Larrin Andrew Collins, Nolan Ray Williams, Alexandria Stanlea Williams, Marion Perry Franklin, Emalee Grace Vaughn, Jake Michael Vaughn, and Lauren Olivia Hamilton ; ana a special nephew, Charles E. Lowe and wife Virginia of Pikeville. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 6 at Potter Chapel with Bro. Bob Williams and Bro. Kevin Williams officiating. Burial followed in Paint Valley Memory Gardens at Crockett with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Mildred Salyer Harbert , 92 , of Cordova, Tennessee , died Thursday, October 20, 2005 at her residence. Born September 8, 1913 in Waco, Texas, Mildred was the daughter of the late Nathan R. Salyer and Audrey Kash Salyer. She was a retired schoolteacher, a member of the Ohio State Retired Teachers Association, the Presbyterian Church, and Daughter of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kash Salyer and Larry Salyer. Survivors include one sister, Eula Linkous of Cordova, Tennessee ; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Salyer of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Elizabeth Salyer of Cleveland, Tennessee ; a nephew, Roger Linkous of Cordova, Tennessee ; three nieces, Margaret Brockmiller of Maggie Valley, North Carolina, Alice Hamilton of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Suzanne Bierman of Des Moines, Iowa ; many other family and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, October 24, at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Minister Danny Murphy officiating. Burial followed in the Ezel Cemetery at Ezel with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Friends and relatives were pallbearers.

Lena May Byrd Scurry Harper, 85, of Jones Creek Road, West Liberty, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Elliott County Nursing Home at Sandy Hook following an extended illness. She was born July 14, 1920 in Morgan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late William R. Byrd and Lou Ellen Gibbs Byrd. Lena was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Scurry ; her husbands, Herman Scurry and Larry Harper ; and one granddaughter, Ella May Brittain. Survivors include one son, Danny Scurry and wife Mary Alice of Jones Creek Road, West Liberty ; two grandsons, Joe Wright and Ben Caldwell ; one brother, John Byrd of Norfolk, Virginia ; and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Elder Hershell Wright officiating. Arnold Drexel Hatton Sr., son of the late Dewey and Bessie Prater Hatton was born August 2, 1933 and departed this life Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 27 days. He was born in Wolfe County, Kentucky, was of the Baptist faith, and was a retired truck driver. Survivors include four sons, Arnold Hatton Jr. of Pitman, New Jersey, Kenneth Allen Hatton of Rutledge, Tennessee, William Dewey Hatton of Deptford, New Jersey, and J. R. Queen of Knoxville, Tennessee ; two daughters, Colette Queen of Morristown, Tennessee and April Standifer of White Pine, Tennessee ; two brothers, Darrel Hatton of Fort Myers, Florida and Jay Hatton of Rutledge, Tennessee ; three sisters, Marie Dalton of Thornhill, Tennessee, Ruby Wagner of Middletown, Ohio and Angie Irwin of St. Petersburg, Florida ; and a special cousin, David Hatton and his family of Hazel Green ; 6 grandchildren ; and host of other relatives and friends. Edward Merle Havens, 78, of West Liberty, Kentucky, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born April 13, 1927 to the late Carl and Leora Gose Havens in Morgan County, Kentucky. He was a retired farmer. Ed was married to Marie Ferguson on June 3, 1950. in addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by also by his second wife, Anna Clay Cottle Havens ; one son, Mike Havens ; a son-in-law, Paul Davis; three brothers, Ralph, Ray, and James Havens ; two sisters, Nancy Ross and Jean Stacy. Ed and Marie have six surviving children, Ruth Davis of Nippa, Gary Havens and wife Lorretta of Ezel, Billy Havens and wife Glois, Donna Cantrell and husband Jack, Steve Havens and wife Barbara, Kim Nickell and husband Danny, all of West Liberty ; and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Havens of Lowmansville. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Brian Johnson, Annie Jones, Jason and Matthew Havens, Kimberly Stambaugh, Sandra Wilder, Melissa Havens, Dustin Havens, Nick and David Havens, Miranda Cantrell, Amanda and Ashley Havens, and Zachary Gullett. Also three step-grandchildren, Talbot Nickell, Kristy Hatton, and Lisa Wireman ; five great-grandchildren, Aleksia and Jason Jr. Havens, Lauren Johnson, Austin and Hunter Wilder ; four step great-grandchildren, Tylor Stambaugh, Aiden and Austin Hatton, and Conner McKenzie ; two brothers, Rex Havens ( Katherine ) of Georgetown, Kentucky and Darrell Havens of West Liberty ; one sister, Faye Field ( Roy ) of Lexington, Kentucky , and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a very special friend, Berchlene Burton of West Liberty. Ed gave his life to the Lord before he died. He enjoyed life and made friends every where he went. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Although it is so sad for us to let him go, we take comfort in knowing that he is in heaven and waiting for us to come join him. So rest on in peace until we see you again. James Drexel Havens, 69, of West Liberty, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty. Survivors include a daughter, Rita Havens Hopkins and husband Robert of West Liberty ; three grandchildren, Michael Mitera, Thomas Mitera, and Jordan Mitera, all of Chicago, Illinois ; three brothers, Ed Havens and Darrell Havens, both of West Liberty and Rex Havens of Centerville: one sister, Faye Field of Lexington ; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews his former wife, Jerri Overstraten and husband Jim of Munford, Alabama. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 15 at at Potter Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rick Pelfrey and Rev. Mike Frisby officiating. Burial followed in the Havens Cemetery at West Liberty with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Carrie Ann Hill, 86, of Relief, Ky., died Friday, March 11 at the residence of her son, Fred Hill, with whom she was living. She was born March 4, 1891 at Relief, a daughter of the late Leander Ferguson and Angeline Brown Ferguson. She was a member of the Paint Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors are four sons, Lonnie B. Hill, Ray Hill and Fred Hill all of Relief, Norman Kelly of Dayton, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Eva. M. Ferguson of Staffordsville, Mrs. Magdolene Mullens of Paintsville, Mrs. Wanderine Ison of Waverly, Ohio; two sisters, Rissie Williams of Ashland and Maudie Holbrook of Relief; 16 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Paint Valley Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Paul E. Keeton, Elder Ellis Hamilton, Elder Jerry Brown and Elder Robie Ferguson. Burial was in the Leander Ferguson Cemetery at Relief with Potter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bronston A. Holbrook, 81, resident of the Greenwich-Shenandoah, Ohio area died Tuesday, December 20,2005 in Ashland Samaritan Hospital, Ashland,Ohio. Born February 27,1924 at Mima,Kentucky. Bronston was a son of the late Henry G. and Nancy M. ( Bradley ) Holbrook.He had been a Shenandoah area resident the majority of his life. Mr. Holbrook was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Copperweld retiring after 31 years of service. He enjoyed farming his 50 acre farm, hunting, fishing, and traveling back to Kentucky. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Holbrook ; two brothers, Vincel and Brenford Holbrook ; his half-sister, Carnie Holbrook Burks ; and two step-daughters, Vicky Hardin and Louise Bristow. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Legg Holbrrook, whom he wed December 5,1988 ; his step-children and their spouses, Ron and Marjorie Parrish of Shelby,Ohio , Gary Parrish of Tiro,Ohio, Tim and Brenda Parrish of Ontario, Karen Keller of Tiro,Ohio, Tina and Jack Lykins of Shenandoah,Ohio, and Linda and Bon Filter of Mohican,Ohio ; three nieces, Zelda Fannin, Myrtle Fannin, and Wilda Burks, and one nephew, Dallas Burks and wife Arzola , all of West Liberty, Kentucky ; numerous step-grandchildren and other relatives. HOLBROOK, BURL
The obituary of Burl Holbrook. Burl was born on September 25, 1950. He went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2005. Burl was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mary Keeton Holbrook and one brother, Hobert Holbrook of Smith Creek, Kentucky. Burl was joined in marriage to Roberta Burke on January 7, 1974. He is survived by two children whom he loved very, very much and loved to play and spend time with : Hannah Morgan and Sarah Elizabeth Kemplin of Ezel. Burl is survived by six brothers and three sisters ; Chester and Anna Lee Holbrook of Paris, Kentucky, Lenville Lee and Millie Holbrook of Crockett, Timothy and Mary Holbrook of Banner, Herbert and Bernice Holbrook , Vernon and Brenda Holbrook and Joey and Iris Holbrook , all of Smith Creek ; Mamie Bambel of Louisville, Vicki and Alan Smith of West Liberty, and Nora Holbrook of Smith Creek. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Eula “ Tiny “ Burke of Middle Fork. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as other family members and friends and neighbors. Burl loved the Lord so much. He was saved and baptized on February 27, 1977. He attended the Centerville Community church and was a regular visitor of the Abundant Life Church. Burl was a witness to so many people of his love for the Lord. If Burl could leave one message to his family he would say to give your heart to the Lord and this is not a good bye but that I have already made my journey home where I will be walking with the Lord down the streets of gold. No longer will I walk with a limp or be in any more pain. I am home. Burl was a member of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War and he received the following medals ; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal. In addition to these medals Burl also received two additional medals that were very uncommon for any Army soldier to receive: The Air Medal – this medal is given for aerial combat taken place in a helicopter when the unit was under fire. The Bronze Star Medal – this medal is given for combat when an area of protection is under fire and the soldiers are taking fire. Burl was a retired coal miner. He also drove a coal truck. Burl enjoyed fox hunting, rabbit hunting, gardening, going to church, and spending time with his wife, children, playing with his grandchildren and visiting family and friends. He was a fine man who had no enemies but many, many friends. Today as we mourn the loss of Burl the community lost a great man, but Heaven gained a “ Beautiful Angel “. Funeral service was conducted Sunday, October 30 at 11 a.m. at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Rev. Harry Flannery and Rev. Donnie Wheeler officiating. Burial followed in the Holbrook Family Cemetery, Hwy. 589, West Liberty with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Honorary and active pallbearers were family and friends. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the Morgan County D.A.V.

Ethel Whitt Howard, 89, of Redwine Road, West Liberty, died Saturday, December 10,2005 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead following an extended illness. Born March 27, 1916 in Morgan County, Kentucky Ethel was a daughter of the late Johnnie Whitt and Sarah Nancy Adkins Whitt. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. Ethel was united in marriage to Anderson Howard on June 11, 1932. He preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, Drexal, Richard, Edward, and Willard Howard. Survivors include one daughter, Emma davis and husband Gordon of West Liberty ; one son, John Howard and wife Mary of Morehead ; 20 grandchildren ; 47 great-grandchildren ; and several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Rev. Eugene Haney and Rev. Johnny Dagnam officiating. Burial followed in the Robinson Cemetery, Pleasant Run Road, West Liberty with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Hardin Howard, 84 , of Hazrad, formerly of Morgan County, Kentucky, died at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Eastern Kentucky Veteran Center in Hazard. Born May 5, 1921 in Morgan County, Kentucky, Hardin was a son of the late Ballard Howard and Louise Montgomery Howard. He was a laborer and sawmill worker, a member of the Baptist Church, and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Monnie Conley Howard and several sisters and brothers. Survivors include fore children, Eugene and Bonnie Howard and Edmond and Barbara Howard, all of Hazard, Sharon Sue and Norvin Thompson of Crockett, Vonderene Swigart of Winchester, Virginia ; 6 granddaughters ; 3 grandsons ; and 7 great-grandchildren ; two brothers, Bill and Polly Howard and Clint and Ella Howard, all of White Oak Branch, West Liberty. Ray Hutchinson, 86, of Highway 172, West Liberty, died Friday, September 30, 2005 at his residence. Born Tuesday, December 3, 1918 at Crockett, Kentucky, Ray was a son of the late Leroy and Martha Jane Sloas Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II , a retired pipe fitter , and a member of the Enterprise Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary Sylvia Hutchinson ; three brothers, Paul Hutchinson, Randall Hutchinson, and Carl Hutchinson ; and two sisters, Verna Fannin and Dottie Ison. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Mae Ferguson Hutchinson ; three children, Thelma and Charley Ferguson of Kingman, Indiana, Ray F. and Sylvia Hutchinson , and Judy and Nick Blanton, all of Highway 172, West Liberty ; seven grandchildren, Joy and Mike Hattabaugh of Valparaiso, Indiana , Anita and Amos Barrios of Highland, Indiana, Cavin Hutchinson and Terry Hutchinson , both of Orlando, Florida, Tonya Hutchinson of Florence, Nicole and Lloyd Lindon of Hazel Green,and Carlia Blanton of New York, New York ; six great-grandchildren, Melissaa and Scott Holbrook of Crown Point, Indiana, Paul and Michelle Hattabaugh of Valparaiso, Indiana, Christina Barrios of Highland, Indiana, Nathan Hutchinson of of Florence, Dillon Lindon and Blaine Lindon , both of Hazel Green ; three great-great-grandchildren, Griffen Hattabaugh, Joshua Holbrook, and Andrew Holbrrook, all of Crown Point, Indiana. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 3, at Potter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Pelfrey, Rev. James Wallin, and Rev. Shane Ison officiating. Burial followed in the Paris Ferguson Cemetery, Highway 172, West Liberty, with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were family and friends.

HYATT, BERTHA
Bertha Alice Black Hyatt, 90, of Johnson Flat Road, Sharkey, died Thursday, September 15, 2005 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Florida. She was born November 21, 1914 in Rowan County, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Carlisle and Pearly Kegley Black. Besides her parents, Mrs. Hyatt was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Glenn Hyatt on May 9, 1989, and one son, Harley Hyatt on September 24, 1991. Survivors include two sons, Glenn Hyatt of Marion, Ohio and Delmar Hyatt of Lecanto, Florida ; 5 grandchildren ; 16 great-grandchildren ; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Alice was an aunt to Julia Benton. She was married to Julia`s uncle, Nelson Hyatt ( half brother to her dad, Harvey McGlone ). Mrs. Hyatt and her husband owned and operated Hyatt Grocery at Sharkey for 20 years. She was a faithful member of Redeemed Regular Baptist Church at Caney for more than 40 years until she became disabled due to a heart attack. She and her family were great friends to Wardie and Hazel Craft. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, at Northcutt and Son Home For Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elder Owen Cox officiating. Burial was in Black Cemetery at Sharkey with Northcutt and Son Home For Funerals, Inc., of Morehead, in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Ron Hyatt, Tom Hyatt, Tetius Miniard, Elvis Middleton, Nelson Burns, Michael Hyatt, and Nelson Humphrey. A large family was at her funeral. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
