SALYER, MARGARET R.
Margaret Rose Salyer , born May 25, 1944 in Hook Norton, England, departed this life Friday, October 7, 2005 after a four-month courageous battle with thyroid cancer. She was a homemaker and avid gardener, recreating the flower gardens of her native England. She is survived by her husband, Gary W. Salyer of Huber Heights, Ohio ; son, Russell W. and daughter-in-law, Carissa and three grandchildren of Columbis, Ohio ; daughter, Lindsey M. Applegate and son-in-law, John of Great Lakes, Illinois ; sister, Laura Wellstood, brother-in-law, Mick, two nephews and a great-nephew of Banbury, OXON, England. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Violet Harris. Interment was Forrest Hills Cemetery, Tipp City, Ohio, October 11, 2005. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.

SCOTT, GEORGE L.
George Lee Scott, 57, of West Liberty, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. Born Saturday, February 28, 1948 in Floyd County, Kentucky George was a son of the late Lawrence Worley and Ann Spurlock Scott. He was employed at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex as a correctional officer. George was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Scott Campbell. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Howard Scott ; three sons, Howard Quincy Stegall and wife Robin, Eric Tyson Stegall and wife Jennifer, and George Lee Scott Jr. , all of West Liberty, ; four grandchildren, Zachary May, Elizabeth May, Candis Cantrell, and Zachary Cantrell ; two brothers, Ronnie Stricklin of Cincinnati, Ohio and Bobby Scott of Floyd County. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 23 at Potter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Ramsey officiating. Burial followed in West Liberty Memorial Gardens with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by Morgan County DAV. Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Agnes House, Lexington, Kentucky. Active pallbearers were Charles Luxmore, P.D. Motley, John Motley, John Hall, Bill Havens, Junior Goodpaster, Fred Henley, Renny Fraley, Hank Allen, and James Adkins. Honorary pallbearers were all his many friends and co-workers.

Wilma Havens Sexton, 83, of Raleigh, North Carolina, died Monday, April 3, 2006 at Rex Hospital. She was born November 23, 1922 in Morgan County, Kentucky a daughter of the late Leonard Miles Havens and Gillie Ann McKinney. Mrs. Sexton, along with her husband owned and operated a chain of restaurants in Raleigh for a number of years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Havens. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Curtis E. Sexton ; daughter, Vicki Lynn Oliver and husband George ; two grandsons, George Brandon Oliver and Jason Lynn Oliver ; four sisters, Juanita Little of Trenton, Ohio, Geraldine McKinney and Patty Gilpatrick Powers, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Betty Jo Havens of Louisville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8 at Ezel Presbyterian Church at Ezel with Rev. Larry Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Ezel Cemetery with Menifee Home For Funerals of Frenchburg in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Havens Sexton, 83, of Raleigh, North Carolina , died Monday, April 3, 2006 in a Raleigh , North Carolina hospital following a brief illness. Born November 23, 1922 in Morgan County, Kentucky Wilma was the daughter of the late Leonard Havens and Gillie Ann McGuire McKinney. She was retired restaurant`s chain owner in Raleigh and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Imogene Havens. Survivors include her husband, Curtis E. Sexron ; a daughter, Vicki S. Oliver ; two grandsons, George Brandon Oliver and Jason Lynn Oliver, all of Raleigh, North Carolina ; four sisters, Juanita Little of Trenton, Ohio, Geraldine McKinney and Patti Gilpatrick Powers, both of Middletown, Ohio and Betty Jo Havens of Louisville. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8 at Ezel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Sexton officiating. Burial followed in Ezel cemetery at Ezel with Menifee Home For Funerals of Frenchburg in charge of arrangements. Friends and relatives were pallbearers.

Lou Harper Perkins Shepherd, 79 , of Highway 3345, Ezel, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at her residence. Born March 2, 1926 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. Lou was the daughter of the late David Edward Harper and Rebecca Myrtle Perkins Harper. She was a homemaker and member of Pekin Pentecostal Tabernacle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Palmer Perkins and Ray Sowards ; three children, Donna Sowards Williams, Patricia Sowards, and Michael Sowards ; one grandchild, Pamela Mayabb ; a great grandchild, Shawn Mayabb ; 2 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include her husband, Wilbur William Shepherd ; six daughters, Pauline and Denver Mayabb of Frenchburg, Charlene and Donald Rudd of Winchester, Patty and David Hurst of Lexington, Phyliss and E. J. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 24, at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Rev. Bill Gamble, Rev. Sammy Vancleave , Rev. Eugene Haney , and Rev. David Hale officiating. Burial followed in the Swards Cemetery, at Bonny, with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons.

Kenneth Jennings “ Papaw “ Smith Sr., 81, of Paris, Kentucky, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at U. K. Medical Center in Lexington. Born August 25, 1924 in Johnson County, Kentucky Kenneth was a son of the late Malcomb Jennings Smith and Lizzie Scaggs Smith. He was a retired custodian for Bourbon County Schools, a former superintendent of North Middletown Cemetery, and a member of Smith Creek Baptist Church. Kenneth was a very special person, an angel on this earth, and lovingly known as Papaw by all who knew him. In addition to his parents Kenneth was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Louise Smith ; one son, William Eugene Smith ; one grandson, Joe Frank Banks ; one brother, Wendall Smith ; and his stepmother, Ella Lemaster Smith. Survivors include his wife, Rosa B. Smith ; five daughters, Anna Ruth Roberts of Prescott, Arizona, Cathy Lee Coffey of Cynthiana, Oma E. ( James ) Ballard, and Barbara A. ( Carl ) Kinne of Paris, Kentucky ; Eleanora Marie ( James ) Hixon of Frankfort ; two sons, Kenneth L. Smith Jr. of Auburn, Alabama and Roger ( Donna ) Smith of Cynthiana ; two sisters, Thelma ( John ) Adams of Wellington and Sarah Robbins of Papaw, Michigan ; and an aunt, Mexie ( Dan ) Cottle of Lexington. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10 at Potter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ora Smith, Rev. Jeff Montgomery, and Rev. Dallas Barker officiating. Burial followed in the Elijah Smith Cemetery at West Liberty with Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Mae Smith, 87, Paintsville, died Friday, April 15,
in Highland Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Mrs. Smith was born May 10, 1889, in Morgan County, a daughter of the
late Moduetta and Rebecca Lester Keaton. She was a member of United
Baptist Church. Her husband, Ira Smith, died in 1952.
Surviving are four sons, Bernard and Hershel Smith, both of
Paintsville, Winfield Smith of Chillicothe, O., and Woodrow Smith of
Royalton; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Davis of Paintsville, Mrs.
Virgie Smith of Mansfield, O., and Mrs. Betty Barner of Belleville,
Mich.; two brothers, Ellis Stapleton of West Van Lear and Lewis Keaton
of Paintsville; 20 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 12
great-great-grandchildren.

Flora Etta Walton Sorrell, 87, of Frenchburg, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Edgewood Estates Nursing Home in Frenchburg. She was born February 19, 1919 in Menifee County, Kentucky a daughter of the late Jonathan S. Walton and Mary Susan McCarty Walton. Flora was a homemaker and member of Frenchburg Church of God in Frenchburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Sorrell ; two sons, Roger Link and James Barry Sorrell ; a step-daughter, Willa Mae Heath ; and a step-son, Ray Sorrell. Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Sorrell of Camden, Ohio and Barbara Whitt and husband Daniel of Sudith ; four sons, Charles Sorrell and wife Karen, Buford Dale Sorrell and wife Roslyn, and Vernon Sorrell, all of Frenchburg, and Rick Sorrell and wife Diane of Pasadena, Texas ; two step-daughters, Imogene Perry and husband Bill of Pasadena, Taxes and Donna Dir and husband Harold of St. Charles, Missouri ; two step-sons, Kenny Sorrell and wife Patty of Middletown, Ohio and Larry Sorrell and wife Sandy of Franklin, Ohio; 18 grandchildren ; 15 great-grandchildren ; and one sister, Frona Fultz of Hillsboro. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22 at Menifee Home For Funerals with Rev. Roger Wells officiating. Burial followed in the Ginter Cemetery at Leatherwood with Menifee Home For Funerals of Frenchburg in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Edgewood Estate Activity Fund. Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Davie Green Stacy, Jr., 78, of Springboro, Ohio, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Harveysburg, Ohio. He was born on May 22, 1927 at Stacy Fork, Kentucky, a son of the late Davie Green Stacy and Jenisa Williams Stacy. Davie was a resident of Springboro, Ohio, for 45 years. He was a World War II veteran and member of the American Legion , Post 615, Waynesville, Ohio. He worked for Reinhart Transfer Company of Portsmouth, Ohio for 35 years as an owner/operator, steel hauler, and retired from there in 1985. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Patrick Stacy ; two brothers, Elmer Stacy and Golden Stacy ; and one sister, Bernice Stacy. Survivters include one daughter, Patricia K. Belue and husband Eddie of Springboro, Ohio ; two sons, Timothy W. Stacy and wife Brenda, and Phillip D. Stacy and wife Denise , all of Waynesville, Ohio ; 6 grandchildren ; 9 great-grandchildren ; and many nieces and nephews. Richard Lee Standafer, 74, of Malone, died Thursday, November 10,2005 at his residence. Born Friday, May 1, 1931 at Hardburley, Kentucky, Richard was a son of the late Howard and Mabel McClure Standafer. He was a retired landscaper and member of the Zag Community Church. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Clarence, Harry, and Bill Standafer ; and one sister, Patsy Standafer. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Ann Farnsworth Standafer ; two sons, Glen Standafer and wife Karen of Malone and Max Standafer of Torrington, Connecticut ; one daughter, Denise Standafer of West Springfield, Massachussetts ; two granddaughters, Tracey Standafer and Brooke Standafer ; one step grandson, Justin Woodard ; two brothers, Tom Standafer and wife Mary and Jim Standafer and wife Carol, all of West Liberty ; four sisters, Jeanette Asbury and husband Bob of Norman, Oklahoma, Mary Holmes and husband Tom of Jamul, California, Dorothy Shore and husband Tom of Dallas, Texas, and Peggy Johnson and husband Dave of Lexington ; several nieces and nephews. Marilyn L. Sorrell Steuart, 70, of salt Lick , died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born March 11, 1935 in Middletown, Ohio a daughter of the late Charles Arnold Sorrell and Julia Ann Mullins. Marilyn was a retired professor at Morehead State University. She was a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War. In addition to her parents Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband James Steuart, two infant children, and a grandson, Jeremy TenEyck. Survivors include six children, Annie Trent and husband Todd of Ute, Iowa, Liza Katzer and husband Lynn of Dow City, Iowa, Kathleen Talcott and husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska, Susan Dour and husband Steven of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Trish Flaugher and husband Greg of Morehead, and Jason Duncan and wife Laura of Ilion, New York ; 16 grandchildren ; 5 great-grandchildren ; one brother, Charles Sorrell of Washington, D.C. and a sister, Mercedes Heller of Highlands, North Carolina. Funeral services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 24 at Menifee Home For Funerals with Rev. Jimmy Daulton officiating. Burial was at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 28 at Gales Creek Cemetery, Gales Creek, Oregon with Menifee Home for Funerals of Frenchburg in charge of arrangements. She was born October 17, 1939 at Cannel City, Kentucky a daughter of the late Estill Easterling and Hortense Stacy Easterling. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. Survivors include her husband, Harold Stidham ; two daughters, Sherry ( Charles ) Haney and Daisy ( Kenny ) Cantrell, both of Cannell City ; one sister, Bradeth Benton of Cannel City ; two brothers, Dailey Easterling of Cincinnati, Ohio and Scott Easterling of Dayton, Ohio ; 11 grandchildren, Mitchell ( Christy ) Haney, Amber Haney, Kala ( Billy ) Robinson, Aaron Haney, Bracken Whitson, Savannah Cantrell, and T.J. Burial followed in the Whitaker Cemetery at Cannel City with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Edgar King, Jessie Stidham, Buddy Gevedon, Ronnie Gevedon, Jerry Keeton, and Travis Cantrell.
