1. WILLIAM1 JOHNSON was born 1767 in England, and died in VA.. He married
NANCY HILTON SCARR 1790 in VA..
Notes for WILLIAM JOHNSON:
The name Johnson "Johnston" is common in all parts of the British Isles.
Family tradition says that our family was Scotch-Irish, and indeed the
names of the children of George W. Johnson, born 1793, would indicate Scottish
origins. One son was named Calvin, co doubt after John Calvin, from whose
teachings the Scotch Presbyterian religion is derived. Another son was
named Campbell Johnson, and Campell is a distinctly Scottish name.
There is a persistent tradition in the Johnson "Johnston" family, which
has been heard from aunts and uncles at verious generations. It goes something
like this:
"A Johnson ancestor lost his family in a war, possibly the Revolution.
He was a young boy at the time and lived a foster home. He took his foster
parents name, which was Johnson."
As the records show, the first known residence of our Johnson family
was in Washington Co., VA. In 1832 the new county of Smyth was formed,
partly from Washington County. The Johnson home was located in the part
of Washington County which became Smyth. By 1850 George W. Johnson had
moved on down to Scott County, VA.
"William John Albert, who changed surname from Albert to Johnson, pressed
into the English army, age 15, on arrival in America, deserted the English
army and joined the American cause, was of PA, and Rockingham Co., VA md
Nancy (prob. Hilton) Scarr, widow of James Scarr)," [Virkus, The Compendium
of American Genealogy, Vol 4 (1930), pg 784; ancestor of Lois Johnston].
You will note the spelling of Johnson changes to Johnston with different
persons. My g-g-gm Elizabeth Ann Johnston ( the spelling was taken from
her marriage cert.), others spelling were taken from other legal documents.
Two of George and Sally "Davis" Johnson's children married James and
Jane "Williams" Barnett, Jr's children. Later you will see that Elizabeth
Ann "Johnston" Barnett's husband , John W. Barnett married his sister amd
Elizabeth's brother,( Francis Marion and Malinda " Barnett" Johnson's)
daughter, Celia. It does get interesting.

BARNETT and JANE WILLIAMS.
Notes for ELIZABETH ANN JOHNSTON:
I have a picture of Elizabeth Johnston Barnett, very beautiful lady.
How did she copy with the hardships living in the country?
Sarha Jane [Barnett] Malicoat was married to a very hot tempered, woman
chasing man. Records show proof Fanteroy was married to three women at
the same time, no divorce ever found. Fanteroy lived a very hard life.
Dorothy [Beddo] Welch said to me Oct.,1995, while we were visiting our
ancestors graves," I sure would like to dig up our grandpa and beat the
devil out of him for what he did to our grandma". Dorothy is the daughter
of Dollie [Malicoat] Beddo.
Fanteroy is buried next to Sarah Jane at Clabber Flats cem, near Pauls
Valley, OK.
Fanteroy had to put up a $100.00 bond to marry Sarah Jane. I have copies
of all legal papers.
Fanteroy M. and his sister, Phoebe married brother and sisters, Eli
Wallace and Sarah Jane Barnett. A great-grand daughter, Zina [Barnett]
Harris is still living in Moore, OK., age 89. I met with her in June,1995
and she gave me a copy of her father's bible, naming more family. Eli Wallace
and Phoebe [Malicoat Barnett are her grandparents, and are buried in Elmoore
City, OK. a few miles from Pauls Valley.
Fanteroy and Sarah Jane had a son, Mat, his decendants don't lay claim
to any Malicoat unless the name is spelt MALICOAT. But through years of
research I found the spelling changed within the siblings and all are related.

"My Uncle John Barnett (Bud's father) was, I learned, much afraid of

of that, even after Uncle John Barnett, had moved to OK. In one instance,
Dad was plowing, killed a huge blacksnake ( non-poisonus, of course) and
laid it across a path along which he expected John to come. The latter
did come, stepped close to the snake before he saw it, letting out a yell.
When he came down he grabbed a handful of stones and peppered the snake
until he finally discovered it was already dead. When Uncle John went over
to where Dad ( trying hard not appear not to notice what had happened,
Uncle John said, " You think you're __________ smart, don't you!" That
incident probably happened in KY.
When Uncle John and Aunt Celia left with their family for OK., our family
moved to the farm where they had lived, on the head of Brushy Creek ( tributary
of Beaver Creek) in Taney Co., just over the "Divide" a few miles to the
south of where Wilbert and family live on Caney Crrek. And when Dad would
happen to see a bob-tailed fence lizard he'd say, " There's one of Barnett's
lizards." and laugh. He meant to imply that Uncle John stoned ever lizard,
that he had knocked off the lizard's tail." per Claude Johnson.

Clabber Flat Cem.; m. FANTEROY M. MALICOAT, December 21, 1879, Mt. Vernon,
Kentucky (Rockcastle County).
Notes for SARAH JANE BARNETT:
Notes:
Sarah Jane sure had a hard life being married to Fanteroy. He would
take off and marry another woman, never bothering with divorce. Maybe he
chased around because he was younger than Sarah Jane, or was he just a
great lover? Sarah Jane was with child,(Frank, died very young) when Fanteroy
took off and married wife # 2 woman.
Sarah held a great love for Kentucky, she instill her love for the Blue
Grass state in her children. Oh how she hated to leave Kentucky . She had
2 small children and another one on the way ( Sarah Elizabeth) ,as she
made her way across the country to join her husband in Texas. Fant had
shot a man for slapping Sarah Jane, the sheriff gave him the choice of
leaving the county, never to return or going to jail. Fant left his wife
and children in the care of his father-inlaw, sister and brother-in-law,
( Eli Wallace & Phoebe (Malicoat) Barnett. The man was a known trouble
maker.
Oct., 1995, Sara L. (Davis) Allen and I were driving through the hills
of Kentucky, talking about our Granny ( Sarah Elizabeth (Malicoat) Davis),
about the love Sarah Jane had for Kentucky, remembering Granny saying she
always wanted to see the Blue Grass of Kentucky, when I looked up to heaven
and said," Granny look through my eyes and see the beauty of the Blue Grass
of Kentucky".
From all the years of research I have done, I feel I have the right
to state how I see Fanteroy M. Malicoat, my great grandfather.
More About SARAH JANE BARNETT:
Fact 1: Sarah Jane and Eli Wallace Barnett are siblings
Notes for FANTEROY M. MALICOAT:
Notes:
Chickasaw Nation Census 1900 lists Sarah Jane Malicoat as Head of House
with 6 children. (one being my grandmother, Sarah E.) Name is under spelling
Malicot and family number 205-182, copied from Pauls Valley library, Pauls
Valley, OK.
1910 census lists Frank Malicoat as head of house, age 55, no wife.
Fantory was a playboy, he was still married to Sarah Jane [she was carring
Frank in her womb] when Fanteroy ran off and started living with a "Old
Lady Blue". When this lady became pregnant and Fanteroy ran from her, she
took the life of her unborn child and her own. After her death, Fanteroy
returned the Garvin County area and took another wife, Elizabeth George
and started yet another family. Records show proof on the same 11-13-1900,
Fanteroy took yet another wife, Millie Beard in Maxwell, Indian Territory.
No divorce has ever been found for Fanteroy.
I found Fanteroy M. Malicoat and Elizabeth George's son Luther Malicoat
and his son, Travis Malicoat living in Yosemite Springs, Oakhurst, Mardera
Co., CA. 7-1996.
Three of Fanteroy and Sarah Jane [Barnett] Malicoat's daughters married

in a covered wagon up the dry bed of Caney Creek as their roadway, about
Dec.1, 1884. A fall drought had left only small holes of water in the creek,
and there was no better road. Brakes of pipe-stem cane grew in the bottoms
along the creek, giving it the name Caney. Deer fed in those canebrakes
at times. Settlers had vension. One story had it that a settler shot a
deer on one of the brakes and a cougar beat him to it. Our settler ancestors,
faced many hardship, and much work. But they brought their bible, kept
the Lord's day, preached the Word and honored God in their lives." per
