John Eugene "Gene" Adkins
John Eugene "Gene" Adkins, 76, of Keavy, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at his home. He was born May 9, 1927, at Briceville, Tenn. to the late Ulys Grand Adkins Sr. and Emma Frances Smith Adkins. Gene served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He attended First Baptist Church in London and belonged to the Hugh Harris Lodge #938 F&AM, the Oleika Shrine Temple, Corbin Shrine Club, and a local antique care club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Thomas Adkins; a brother, Ulys Grant Adkins Jr.; and a nephew, Harold Gene Adkins. Also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Adkins of Corbin.
He is survived by: four daughters, Kathy Adkins Mosley and Ralph of Mt. Vernon, Deborah and Bruce Snyder, Sherry and Lynn Ruhlow both of Corbin and Sandhi and Jim Rushing of Albemarle, NC; two step children Bill Combs and Marcia Combs Moore of NC; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, May 7, at O'Neil Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Terry Lester and Bro. Doug Martin officiating. Burial followed in the A. R. Dyche Memorial Park in London.
Masons served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. |
