Charles E. Berry
RICHMOND, Ind. -- Charles Edward Berry, age 79, went home to be with his Lord
Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.
Born in Kenton County, Ky., on Jan. 11, 1925, he was the son of Grant R. and
Elizabeth Boyd Berry and had lived in this community since 1947. He was a W.W.
II Navy veteran. Before his retirement in 1991, Charles had a 47-year career
with the railroad, first for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a fueler and then for
Conrail as a car inspector. He was a member of the Transport Workers Union and
the Purple Martin Conservation Society. Charles' faith in God and his family
were the most important things in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Gray Berry, to whom he was married Oct. 29,
1960; two sons, Edward Von Berry and his wife Pennie, Brodhead, Ky., and Michael
Scott Berry and his wife Denise, Richmond, Ind.; one grandson, Mark Edward
Berry, Brodhead, Ky.; two granddaughters, Brianna Marie Berry and Marissa Renee
Berry; one brother, Russell Berry and his wife Mildred, Ridgeville, Ind.; one
niece, Cheryl; three nephews, Dale and William Berry and Eric Murray; two
special puppies, Winky and Wendy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jane and Euna Berry; and
one brother, William Berry.
Funeral services for Charles Edward Berry will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April
25, 2004, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond, Ind.,
with Rev. Fred Cox officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery. Friends may
call from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to
VA Regional Office for Paralyzed Veterans of America, 575 N. Pennsylvania,
