INTERIOR JOURNAL Friday, March 3, 1950 page 1 OLDEST ROCKCASTLE CITIZEN PASSES AWAY AT GRANDSON'S HOME Mr. James Brummitt, probably the oldest citizen of Rockcastle County, died suddenly Sunday morning at the home of his grandson Mr. Nathan Brummitt Jr. on Negro Creek at the age of 104. "Uncle Jim" as he was called by all, enjoyed good health and was most active for his age. He was a familiar figure on the streets of Brodhead where he will be missed by many friends. Known far and wide for his story telling. Uncle Jim could relate many experiences during and following the Civil War. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, his wife. 2 sons preceded him in death several years ago. Those surviving include, George and Nathan Sr. of Brodhead, Van of Hazzard and Green of Danville. Also surviving are a vast number of grandchildren and other relatives. Short services were conducted at the grave in Negro Creek Cemetery by Rev. Carsel Blanton. |
