Mr. George E. Collins, age 80, passed away Friday, May 16 at the VA Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Mt. Vernon, KY on Aug. 10, 1922 the son of Arthur and Edna Westerfield Collins. He was the husband of Irene Sowder Collins and a longtime resident of Pine Hill in Rockcastle County. Along with his wife, he founded the Pine Hill Holiness Church in 1955 in which he was an active Deacon and church leader. He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II having received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a longtime farmer, was retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot, and contributed actively in the community by visiting and praying for the sick and elderly. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Irene Collins, he is survived by four sons, Jesse Sherman Collins of London, and Clyde Raymond Collins (Magdalene), Clifford Wayne Collins (Patricia), and Donnie E. Collins (Carolyn), all of Pine Hill; two daughters, Pauline Warf (Ronald) of Cumberland, KY and Joyce Ann Jones (James) of Pine Hill; two brothers, Lloyd Collins and Arthur Collins, Jr., both of Calloway; and three sisters, Alva Mullins and Beatrice Collins, both of Calloway, and Maybell Moore of Pine Hill. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Eugene Collins; two brothers, Robert and Hurston Collins; and two sisters, Luella Conley and Elizabeth Napier. |
