Chester L. Cummins
Chester Cummins, age 83, of Somerville, Ohio, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, in
Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, May 9, 1920, the
son of William B. and Kizzie M. (Ponder) Cummins. He married Pearl Cole on May
12, 1939, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, and to this union one daughter,
Connie, was born. Chester served in the Navy during WWII from August 1943 to
December 1945 as a First Class Signal on the USS LSM 29 ship and received five
Bronze Stars. He retired from the Beckett Paper Company in June of 1982.
Chester is survived by his daughter, Connie and her husband Herbert “Les”
Ratliff of Somerville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Helena Davidson of Hamilton,
Gerald “Lee” Browning and wife Lisa of Aurora, Indiana, and Chris Muncie and
wife Heather of Jacksonville, Florida; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle,
Nicole, Stephanie, Levi, Paige, Heather and Taylor; one great-great-grandson,
Timmy; and several nieces and nephews. Chester was preceded in death by his
parents; wife; three sisters, Bernice, Rachel and Mabel; and one brother,
Russell.
Funeral services will be held at the Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at
South “D” Street, Hamilton, on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev.
Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation
will be held prior to the service from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral
home.
