Mr. H. Lee Durham, age 88 of
Mt. Vernon, died Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Rockcastle
Hospital. He was born in McKinney, KY on June 24,
1915 the son of Joseph Montgomery and Vida Ethel
Baugh Durham. He was a retired UK Agriculture
Extension Agent having received numerous awards
during his lifetime. He graduated from McKinney High
School and received a BS degree from Berea College
and Masters Degree in Agriculture from the
University of Kentucky. He was a veteran of the US
Army having served for over three years during World
War II as part of the Eighth Air Force in the
European Theater. He was an active member of the
First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon where he served
as deacon, member of the choir, and Sunday School
Teacher, as well as many other positions of
leadership. He, along with his wife, Laura, provided
music for many weddings, funerals, and church
services during the past forty years.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Ruth Whitaker
Durham; a daughter, Laura Lee Durham Wesley of
Lancaster; and a grandson, Lee Hamilton Durham
Speaks of Lancaster.
