Mrs. Ida Pearl
Durham, age 96 of Rt. 4 Mt. Vernon, died Friday, Apr. 16 at her home.
She was born in Jackson County on Feb. 9, 1908 the daughter of David and
Elizabeth Cole Lear. She was the owner of a poultry and egg business,
was a member of the Flat Top Christian Church, and was a Kentucky
Colonel. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, flowers, and her
grandchildren.
On Sep. 1,
1928, she married Walter Durham and to that union, five children were
born: Geraldine French (Ben) of Mt. Vernon, Iverene Brooks of Madison,
AL, Estelle Martin of Butler, Ted Durham (Edna) of Mt. Vernon, and
Bentley Durham (Bobbie) of Brodhead. Also surviving are one brother,
Stanley Lear of Jackson Co., and a sister, Eliza Lear Carpenter, also of
Jackson Co.; fourteen grandchildren, Benedetta Stilwell (Brian), Wade
Brooks, Jeffery Brooks, Thomas Brooks, Russell Brooks, David Martin,
Gary Martin (Sherry), Susan Cox (Todd), Katrina Barry (Doug), Shanda
Springer (Randy), Stacy Durham, Sheryl Smith (Harold), Brian Durham
(Kelley), and Beth Saylor (Seth); and fifteen great grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Durham; two grandchildren,
Vincenta Howard and Dana Durham; a son-in-law, Jack Martin; a
grandson-in-law, Larry Howard; four sisters; and four brothers.
