d. 12 Jun 1996 RICHMOND - Dennis Lawrence, 44, of Letcher Avenue died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Born in Rockcastle County, ( SSI – born 23 July 1951) he was a son of Rube and Hester Messer Lawrence of Brodhead. He was a graduate of Brodhead High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a teacher in Whitley County High School for two years and Madison Central High School for 13 years. He was a special education teacher at Madison Southern High School at he time of his death. He was owner of Added Touch Flower Shop in Richmond and a member of the Kentucky Florist Association. He was active in many civic organizations and was a director of the Miss Richmond Pageant. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he worked in the Dixie Plaza Mission and served on many committees, including the nominating committee. He was former director at East Pittsburg Baptist Church near London, Silver Creek Baptist Church, Berea, and Union City Baptist Church.
Additional survivors include his wife, Sharon Sowers Lawrence; and a brother, Wendell Lawrence of Danville. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Richmond, by the Revs. Curtis H. Warf, Dan Bruce and Dennis Brewer. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Faulkner, Tim Kelly, Charles Combs, Bobby John Harris, Kenneth Tate, Phillip Seyfrit, Gary Risk, Arthur Boggs and Bryan Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are faculty members of Madison Southern High School. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday at Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home.
