Mrs. Hallie Smith Mills, 90, of Scalf, mother of Bonnie Neely of Mt. Vernon, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Knox County Hospital in Barbourville. She was born March 22, 1913, the daughter of Cal and Myrtle Gibson Smith, was a former employee of General Motors, enjoyed canning, cooking, gardening and quilting and was a member of the Salt Gum Baptist Church.
Besides her daughter, Bonnie Neely (Jim), survivors are five other daughters, Diana M. Robinson of Beavercreek, OH, Ora Lee Pickett (Carl) of Barbourville, Beulah Smith of Corbin, Anna Sue Mills (Randall) of Carlisle, OH and Noma Jean Rawlins (Bob) of Troy, OH; four sons, C. T. Mills (Wanda) of Scalf, Ben Mills, Jr. (Armarita) of Flat Lick, Don Mills (Maria) of Beavercreek, OH and Lonnie Mills of Scalf; two sisters, Ellen Potter of Barbourville and Sally Mathis of Louisville; 25 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and 18 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Mills and by five brothers, one sister and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 23 at the Knox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Barnard and Rev. Earl Hammons officiating. Burial followed in the Long Tom Mills Cemetery at Scalf. |
