Mrs. Arletta H. Norton, 77 of Mt. Vernon died Tuesday at the Rockcastle
Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead after an illness of several
months. She was born on September 17, 1926 in Oneida, Ky the daughter of the late Chesley and
Minnie Roach Hogan. She was a retired Insurance agent after being in business as
Norton Insurance Agency for 27 years. She was a former school teacher having taught at
Mullins Station and Mt. Vernon High School, was Rockcastle County Treasurer for several
years, operated Renfro Valley Drive-in Theater with her husband for 13 years,
was former editor of the Mt. Vernon Signal, and had been a member of the Eastern Star,
Womens Club, Rockcastle Saddle Club, the Independent Insurance Agents of KY, was
instrumental in obtaining property for Lake Linville, and was a member of the Methodist
Church.
Survivors are: Her husband; William I. “Bill” Norton of Mt. Vernon. Two
sons; Charles and wife Denise Norton of Winchester, KY and Michael and wife
Kyiva Norton of Rineyville, KY. One daughter; Bonita and husband Mike Lay of Somerset,
KY. One sister; Billie Jean Thackara of Clearwater, Fl. Eight grandchildren and five
