Gracie S. Owens
CRAB ORCHARD - Gracie Barnes Sweeney Owens, 76, formerly of Rockcastle County,
died Wednesday at Central Baptist Hospital.
Born Feb. 28, 1922, in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late Lee
and Flora Stevens Barnes. She was the wife of Dale Owens. She was a member of
the Faith Temple in Jesus' Name church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in
death by her first husband, Walter Sweeney.
Survivors also include seven daughters, Dessie Oaks, Sue Thompson, Alma Cash and
Judy Owens, all of Crab Orchard, Ruby Alexander of Brodhead, Irene Napier of
Lancaster and Margaret King of Stanford; two sons, Johnny Sweeney of Crab
Orchard and Gene Sweeney of Preachersville; one brother, Robert Barnes of Paris;
four sisters, Mary Hunt of Brodhead, Maggie Baker of Crab Orchard, Locie Barnes
and Martha Sweeney, both of Mount Vernon; 35 grandchildren; 36
great-grandchildren and 52 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be noon Friday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Vernon
Willard. Burial will be in Ottawa Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. tonight.
Pallbearers will be Hobert Sweet, Kenny Stevens, David Coleman, Joe Preston,
Mike and Ricky Johnson.
