Mrs. Mary Rebecca Cope Saylor, age 83, of Brodhead, Ky., wife of Cleston R. Saylor, passed away, Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at the Rockcastle Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on November 1, 1920, in Glamorgan, VA., a daughter of the late John Mack and Elsie Elizabeth Arnold Cope. She was a member of the Brodhead Baptist Church. She was an Educator of 44years, having taught eight years in Jenkins, Ky., seven years in Brodhead, thirteen years at Old Mt. Vernon High and one year at Brown School in Pulaski Co., and as Counselor at the Rockcastle Co. High School for 15years.
On July 19, 1945 she was united in holy matrimony to Cleston R. Saylor and from that union came three children-E. Howard, John Boone and Cleston Anthony Saylor. Those left to mourn her passing besides her husband, Mr. Cleston Saylor are her three sons-E. Howard Saylor and wife Sharon Childress Saylor of Mt. Vernon, Ky; John Boone Saylor and wife Dr. Karen Bullock Saylor of Brodhead, Ky; and Cleston Anthony "Tony" Saylor and wife Rebecca Elam Saylor of Brodhead, Ky. Eight grandchildren-Johnathan Howard Saylor, Cleston Reed "Max"well Saylor, Mary Sheril Saylor, John L Saylor, Anthony Boone Saylor, Mahala Michelle Saylor, Brittany Nicole Perkins and Tanner Hayes Perkins. Three brothers-Charles Andrew Cope, Robert Arnold Cope and Cecil Cope all of Benham, Ky.; A sister-Shirley Cope of Benham, Ky. As well as a host of friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers-John Henderson Cope, James Winfield Cope and Ralph Hoover Cope, and two sisters-Sue Ella Brown and Margaret June Cole.
Visitation for Mrs. Mary Saylor will be Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004 at 5PM at the Brodhead Baptist Church in Brodhead, Ky. & 9A Wed. prior to services at Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 at 1PM at the Brodhead Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating, burial will follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead, Ky.
