Arthur Griffin Jr., was born about 1775 in Northampton County, N.C. He was the son of Arthur Sr. and Amy (Mann) Griffin. Arthur Jr. died in 1824, in Stewart County, Tennessee, near Model, in what is now the Land Between the Lakes.

Arthur Griffin married Elizabeth Futrell about 1810. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Sally Futrell and was born about 1788 in Northhampton County, North Carolina. The Arthur Griffin family migrated to Stewart County about 1820 and settled near Model, Tennessee.

Elizabeth Futrell Griffin married a second time on June 26, 1846, to Jethro Bass. Jethro Bass and his first wife are buried in unmarked graves on the hillside across from the Great Western Furnace at the old site of the town of Model, near the Buffalo Range. Jethro Bass died not long after his second marriage and Elizabeth Griffin Bass died April 23, 1853, In Trigg County, near Golden Pond. It is not known for certain where she is buried.

The children of Arthur and Elizabeth Griffin were:

(1) Dawsey Griffin, 1813-1869;
(2) Nancy Bell Griffin, 1814-about 1864;
(3) Martha E. Griffin, 1815-1887;
(4) Mary "Polly" Griffin, born 1816;
(5) Elitha Griffin, 1819-1890;
(6) William Griffin, born 1822; and (7) Arthur Griffin III, born 1823.

Dawsey Griffin, son of Arthur and Elizabeth, was born in Northampton County, N.C. in 1813, before the family migrated to Kentucky. He married Sarah "Sallie" Futrell, daughter of Shadrach (1770-1818) and Charlotte Johnson Futrell (1771-1818). He died April 5,1869 in Calloway County.

Dawsey Griffin and family lived on a farm on Pryor Creek, Just below the present site of the 1850 Home Place.

Their children were:

Martha Jane, born 1833 in Stewart County, Tennessee, died In Calloway County, Kentucky. She married Timothy J. Outland Oct. 27, 1851 in Stewart County. This family moved to Calloway County in the 1850's and were the parents of 12 children.

Mary E. Griffin, born 1835 In Stewart County. She married Jordan Futrell April 2,1852. Jordan was the son of Jenkins Futrell. Their children were: Sarah E., born 1852 and Frances Josephine, born 1855, who married William E. Outland Nov. 13, 1872.

Permelia Griffin, born 1837, died April 23, 1907 in Calloway County. She married Tilznan S. Outland, son of James Bryant, on Feb. 13, 1857. Soon after their marriage they moved to Calloway County. They were the parents of nine children.

William J. Griffin, born 1842 and died Jan. 26, 1862; he lived his whole life in Stewart County and was buried in the Hicks Cemetery, near Model.

Thomas M. Griffin, born Dec. 23, 1846 and died July 14, 1929 in Stewart County. He married Georgia Ann Allen, daughter of R. R. and Emily McClain Allen, on May 9, 1870. They were the parents of seven children: Alpha Ann, Emma, Sanford, Boone, Plomer, Madie, and Clarence.

Alfred Griffin, son of Arthur and Elizabeth, was born 1844 in Stewart County. Alice Griffin daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth, was born 1849 and died 1853 near Model, Tennessee.

This family line has been traced more completely, and if anyone wishes, I will continue it at a later date. Just a few comments about miscellaneous matters. I had a letter from someone who did not include her name or address who is very Interested in contacting Mrs. Ernestine Bucy and learning more about the Collies. She also commented that she had been waiting for more to be written on this subject. Well, Ernestine, how is your research coming?
