DUNNING, Joseph, Pvt.

Joseph Tanner Dunning, 17, son of Levi and Jennett Dunning of Trigg County enlisted as a Private, Oct 24, 1861 at Hopkinsville, KY in Company B, 8th Regiment, Kentucky Infantry. Joseph was captured at Fort Donelson and sent to Camp Morton, IN and then the Vicksburg, MS, to be exchanged. He was discharged at Jackson, MS, Feb 21, 1863 by reason of furnishing a substitute and bad health. At time of discharge he was 20, five feet eight, dark complexion, grey eyes, dark hair and of good character.

DUNNING, Levi Shoulders, Pvt.

Levi S. Dunning, 21, son of Levi and Jennett Dunning of Trigg County enlisted as a Private with two of his brothers at Hopkinsville, KY, Oct 24, 1861 in Company B, 8th Regiment, Kentucky Infantry, CSA. He fought in Mississippi at Vicksburg, Jackson, and Guntown and in the charge on Paducah, KY. Records show he was taken prisoner by Union forces at Citronelle, AL, May 1865. Levi S. Dunning was paroled at Columbus, MS, May 16, 1865. (On his pension application he stated: "Never in prison, never took oath of allegiance to the U.S. Government."
