Alfred Brandon Sholar, "Bill" as he was called in Trigg County, was born October 30, 1918 in Trigg County, KY. He was the 2nd son of James Edward Sholar and Christie Ethel Chewning of Trigg County. Brandon died September 10, 1985 in Hopkinsville, KY.
 
 Brandon was inducted into the US Army on April 22, 1941. He was a private in the Anti Tank Company, 149th Infantry. While in the service Brandon was shipped over seas to the southern Phillipines. He saw action on Luzon and in New Guinea. For service to his country he received the Asiatic - Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars per War Department General Order # 33/45, American Theater Ribbon, Americam Defense Service Medal, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star per War Department General Order # 33/45, Good Conduct Ribbon, and the World War 2 Victory Medal. Brandon also received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and was a rifle marksman. He is listed  Military Occupational Specialty and number as Pioneer 729.
 
Brandon was honorably discharged as a private first class on November 6, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. His Honorable Discharge is filed in the Trigg County Court House. It was filed November 17, 1945.
