Notes for JAMES STIGLER:
The Stigler family were early German immigrants to America. We know that James Stigler purchased property in Virginia, in 1743. Have not been able to find the extact date of immigration.
James Stigler came to Virginia prior to March 2, 1743, according to a deed made by a grandson dated September 6, 1795, King Georges County, Virginia. He died between May 1764 and May 2, 1765 aand left the following will. Will Book 1, pages 219-220 King George Co., Virginia
In the name of God amen, I James Stigler of the County of King George and Parish of Hanover, being in perfect health and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, first I Bequeath my Soul to God, who gave it, and my Body to the Earth to be decently Buried, at the Discretion of my Executors hersafter mentioned in sure and certain hope of Joyful Resurrection, through the merits of Jesus Christ my Savior, and for what Temporal Estate, it hath pleased God to bestow on me, I give and Bequeath as followeth. Item I give to my son Samuel Stigler five Shillings Current money. Item all the rest of my Estate Real and Personal, I leave my loving wife Martha Stigler during her natural life, and after her decease to be sold at Public auction, for cash, and the money arising there from, to be equally divided between my ssix children, to wit Mary, David, Agge, Catherine, Benjamin and James, and if any of my children should die, before the come of age, or marry, that his or her part of my estate shall be divided between the survivors and, I do appoint my loving Son in Law, Robert Stringfelloe, Joel Bery, and Joseph Harrison to be my Executors of this my last will and testament, herby revoking all former wills by me made, and do acknowledge, this to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this day of May Anno 1764.

Martha Stigler, James widow April 19, 1776 (deed book 5 page 1194 King George Co., Virginia) deed the land left to her by james to son Benjamin "for supporting me in a decent manor during my life" this property the went to James Stigler, son of Benjamin who sells it ot Robert Stringfellow 6 September 1795, it was this deed that the date of purchase of the land by James (the first) was mentioned. Robert and Catherine (Stigler) Stringfellow sells the same property to John Skinner 19 May 1800.

2. SAMUEL2 STIGLER (JAMES1) was born Abt. 1720, and died Bet. March - May 1800. He married (1) SARAH ANN. He married (2) SARAH POUND April 11, 1787 in Nelson Co., Kentucky.
Notes for SAMUEL STIGLER:
The family did not stay long in King George County but some moved to Culpepper and Faquier Counties of Virginia. We find that James and Martha conveyed to Samuel stigler Eldeat son 60 acres of land (Deed book 4, King George County, Virginia) 5 April 1764 for and in consideration of the natural love and affection they have for Samuel Stigler.This was the upper part of the larger tract that James Stigler holds, land adjoining that of Thomas Skinner, Joseph Harrison, Robert Peck Jr. and Captain Joseph Strother as by a survey and plot made by Benjamin Berry. Martha, also listed is a statement of fact that this was a Deed of Gift.
The following year 2 May 1765, Samuel and Sarah, his wife lease this land to Joseph Harrisson for 5 shillings of lawful money of Greaat Eritian, term one whole year to be compled and Joseph Harrison "Therefore yielding and paying unto said Samuel Stigler and Sarah, his wife, the rent of one Ear of Indian Corn upon the feast of St. Michael the Arch Angel if same shall be lawfully demanded to the true intent."
Apparently 1765 is the date Samuel and Sarah moved to Culpepper Co., Virginia, moving from the Parish of Burnswick in Kung George Co. There were two Virginia Public Service claims dated June 18,1781 and October 14, 1781. Certificates for beef furnished for public use by Samuel Stigler.
Culpepper County Deed Book M pages 221-223 dated August 16,1784, Samuel and wife Ann(Sarah Ann) sell for 300 pounds current money of Virginia 400 acres of land to John Garnett of same county. We know that Samuels first wife was named Sarah but find his wife's name listed as Ann in this document, there is no doubt but that this is the mother of his children. She apparently died before 1787 as Samuel moved to Kentucky. Samuel married Sarah Pound, a widow April 11, 1787 and they had no children.
Nelson County deed book no. 3, page 107- Samuel selling tract of land where he now lives dated 1793 to James Brown, containing 125 acres. In 1793, Samuel and Sarah sell to Beal Dorsey for 40 pounds current money of the State of Caintucky, 112 1/2 acres of land situated on Simmons Creek, part of a tract of land Samuel received from Patrick McGee, the original land patent in the name of John E. Kine. Another deed dated August 13,1793 selling for 40 pounds current money of the State of Caintucky, 112 1/2 acres to Job Eldridge, also located on Simsons Creek, Nelson Co, Kentucky.
SAMUEL STIGLER WILL
In th name of God amen I Samuel Stigler of this State of Kentucky and the County of Nelson being of sound mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die have made and ordained this to be my last will and Testament (revoking all others heretofore made) in manner and form following that is to say.
In the first place I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Stigler the tract of land and plantation whereon I now live containing 182 acres more or less to him, his heirs or assigns forever being made up of three different surveys viz 125 acres of Bairds entry 38 of Lincoln's and 19 of Rogers and it is my will and devise that if any claims or encumbrances should disturb the S. Benjamin my son in the quick possession of the s. Tract or plantation that all costs and damages shall be paid out of the residue of my estate excepting my wife's Sarah laefuldemand. In the second place I give and bequealth to my daughter Gilly Stigler a certain tract of land 200 acres more or less lying in Hardin County on Rough Creek and its waters having a bond for the same assigned by Samuel Brown the right being in William Tool(?) of Shelby County and State of Kentucky and also one feather bed and furniture and one side saddle. Thirdly i give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Rawson five pounds. Fourthly all the rest and the residue of my estate real and personal shall be divided into seven equal parts or shares that is to say Sally Brown, Polly Snyder, Charlotte Eldridge and Nancy Dorsey each one share, the children of my daughter Jane Turnam one share and Benjamin Stigler and Gilly one share to their and their heirs and assigns forever. Fifthly I do hereby appoint my son in law James Brown, Charles Wortham, and Beall Dorsey Excutors to this my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal thistwenty secon day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred.

Notes for NANCY STIGLER:
Nancy Stigler married Beall Dorsey, son of Charles and Lydia Dorsey of Nelson County, Kentucky, who came to Kentucky from Frederick Co. Maryland. They lived in Nelson County until around 1805 when they moved to Gallatin Co., Ky. As Beall's brother Charles owned a considerable amount of land in that area. Beall and Nancy owned 196 acres of land on Corn and Looms Creek in Gallatin, which they sold in 1807 and moved to Hardin County Kentucky. Their eldest daughter, Lydia was married July 14, 1807 to William H. Scott, Son of George. their other children married in Hardin Co. Beall died in 1822 leaving a will that his property be sold, he owned 582 acres on Cedar Creek, and a portion used to purchase property for Nancy. It is possible that Nancy died shortly after Beall because there is a guardian bond naming Abraham VanMatre as guardian of the youngest daughter, Corrina.
