John Rootes Thornton Will
Bourbon County Will Book S, Volume 1,Page 242
       I John R. Thornton of the town of Paris and County of
Bourbon do made and ordain this my last will and testament
as follows:
       I direct that my just and funeral expenses be paid, I
then give bequeath and direct to my son Anthony R. Thornton
all my estate real, personal and mixed of every description,
       I hereby appoint my said son Anthony R. Executor of this
my last will and Testament and hereby direct that the
Court taking probate of this will require no security of him
of him, nor my appointment Inventory or Sale of my estate;
hereby revoking all other wills.  This will in the body and sig-
nature is in my own hand writing.  Witness my hand this

Bourbon County Court January Term Jany 5th 1874
       This last will and Testament of Jno. Rootes Thornton
deceased, was this day produced in open Court, and there
being no attesting witnesses thereto Robert T. Davis was
sworn, who stated that he is well acquainted with the
hand writing of sad Testator, and that said Will and
the signature thereto and wholey in the hand writing of
said Testator and ordered to record.  Witness Jas. M. Hughes
clerk of said Court the date above

being hired by the intestate until Christmas with this I admit this

This inventory and appraisement of the personal estate of Thos
Towles Thornton deceased being returned in Court and approved
of was ordered to Record Witness Thomas R. Smith Clerk of said

returneth the Bourbon County Court that on the 11th day of Dec 1839
he made sale of the estate of said Thomas T. which had come
to his hands as specified on the appraisement bill and inventory
three thousand dollars on a credit of nine months from the date
of said sale Given under my hand this 11th Dec 1839

I Anthon Thornton Junior of Bourbon County
being at this time diseased in body but of and dis
ossing mind and memory, do make and ordain
this as my Last Will and Testament. I direct that
all my past debts be paid and for this pur
pose I subject to the discretion of my Executors
or such of them of as may survive or act all my
Estate real, personal or misce, to be sold either at
public or private sale, or to be pledged mortgaged
or conveyed in trust to discharge or secure any of
my debts, or to procure time for the payment there
of in And I do authorise them to settle by compro
mise or in any amicable made any controversy that
may exist, or debt that may be due respecting

from my estate, having due regard to the interest of
my wife and children in the disposition which my
and Executors may make. After my said debts are
paid the rest of my Estate, of whatsoever kind is to
be placed in the possession of my wife to be by her
enjoyed, for her own support and for the main
tance and education of all my children to whom
my estate is ultimately to belong. And my wife
is at liberty to dispose of the same evenelly among
my children at her discretion. And if on their
marriage, or arrival at age of any child she
shall see cause to advance to such child its
share or any part thereof in her discretion.
It being fully understood that my children are
ultimately to have my Estate equally divided
but not so as to strip my wife of her support
or to lessen her use and enjoyment thereof with
out her consent, she being allowed to act in
the mater of distribution as to time and her
Own interest as she may suppose may be most
for their benefit reserving to them the ultimate be
able after her support is secured and theirs also
while she and any of my children reside together.
I do hereby appoint John Roots Thornton and Benja
min Mills my Executors for the purpose of executing
this will, and they are not to be inquired to give
security for the Administration by the court taking
probat of this will. Witness my hand this 14 Nov

Being in the full possession of all my faculties, I decide this morn
ing in the fear of Gode, to write my will.
I desire that after my death my thousand dollars 9ten shares
of Bank Stock) in the Northern Bank of Kentucky, shall revert
to my Cousin Anthony R. Thornton, to have and to hold for his
own property.
I write this with my own hand 29th day of January 1892.
