The 1860 Census of Hancock Co., KY

The 1860 Census of Hancock Co., KY was transcribed by George Gibbs of the Hancock Co., KY Archives and donated to the USGenWeb Census Project. The 1860 census of Hancock Co. is unusual because the census taker got a little lazy and tried desperately to make our lives more interesting than it has to be by putting mostly initials rather than full names. It has been made more useful to Hancock Co. researchers because Mr. Gibbs has gone the extra mile again and provided names for some of those initials (scroll all the way to the right). To George Gibbs, his wife, Mary Emma and his daughter Mary Louise, all researchers of Hancock Co., families owe a great deal of gratitude.
