The records of Hazel Creek Church show that in 1799, 12 members from that body were authorized to “constitute an arm at George Clark's, on the west side of Pond Creek.” This step, doubtless, led to the formation of Nelson Creek Church, June 10, 1803, with “Isaac and Peggy Davis, Lenox and Sarah Rose, William and Rebecca Cross, John and Martha Duvall, Warren Davis, Mary Hunsinger, Mollie Randolph, and Sarah, a black woman,” aided by Elders Benj. Tolbert and James Keil.
