William Monroe Cates & Asenith Ann Young
William Monroe Cates was born 13 November 1821 in North Carolina. He died 06 March 1872 in Obion Co., TN. He is buried in the Obion Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
William Monroe was the son of Robert D. Cates and Margaret Carrigan. He married Asenith Ann Young in Weakley Co., TN on 19 August 1846. They were married by J. Marcus, a Justice of the Peace.
Asenith Ann Young was born 19 May 1824 in TN; she died 20 January 1889.
Children of William M. Cates & Asenith A. Young:
- Margaret Cates was born about 1848. In Obion County, on 05 September 1865, she married J.D. Neely.
- John Robert “Bob” Cates was born 30 December 1850. He married, about 1872, Mary Ellen Reid. Bob died in 1916 in Obion Co., TN, while Mary Ellen died about 1889.
- Martha Cates was born about 1852 and married Sidney Eli Kirk before the 1870 census.
- Mary “Minnie” Cates was born about 1855 and married William “Pink” Bell.
- Susan Diony “Susie” Cates was born about 1857 and married John Graves Thompson.
- Sarah “Sally” Cates was born about 1862 and married Frank Cranford.
- Melissa “Lissy” Cates was born about 1866 and married Billy Martin or Billy Wright. They lived in Arkansas.
- Willie Terrisa Cates was born about 1870 and married Will Dyer.
- Julie Cates died at age 10. Birthdate not known. She is buried at
Cobbs Chapel near Troy, TN. She does have a tombstone.
