Central City, Ky., March 15. - As a result of a strike which has been in progress for the past month and on account of the slump in the coal market, the McDonald Coal Mining company has abandoned its mine at Midland, moving its store to Hillside and storing its operating machinery, all of which has been “pulled” from the pit, it has been learned here.
The abandoned mine gave employment to between 150 and 250 men, according to an estimate of a company official. It had been operated by the McDonald company for several years.
At Hillside, the McDonald company is operating the old Hillside mine which had been operated by the Liberty Coal Mining company on a small scale for some time.
