Vincent, Emery

Officers jail man accused of entering cafe. Burglars are surprised when owner of cafe returns to place of business.

Emery Vincent was arrested Tuesday night at 11:30 o'clock by Patrolmen Herbery Robey and Andrew Wilkins at his home on Sixth Street a short time after Jesse Devine's Cafe had been burglarized. Vincent was charged with storehouse breaking.

Devine, who had closed the cafe to attend the show, returned to his place of business. He found the door unlocked. Devine shoved open the door and started to turn on the lights when a voice in the building shrieked, “Don't turn on the lights.” Devine, backing up, and going for help, saw the intruders dart out of the door. Entrance was gained by forcing open the door. There is no back entrance to the cafe, and when the men were cornered, had to make their break through the front door.
