Savage, Dallas

So. Carrollton child is killed when hit by car

S.A. Kittinger.

The accident happened as the boy was coming home from school to lunch. Bowen picked the child up, taking him to the office of Dr. J.P. Walton, this city, where he died about fifteen minutes later. Both thighs and an ankle were broken, and he had injuries to his head.

The body was taken to Bremen to a funeral home, where the coroner's jury of Muhlenberg county, presided over by Lonnie Bryan, coroner, rendered a verdict as follows: “We, the jury, after hearing the evidence find that Dallas Savage came to his death by being hit by an automobile driven by Chester Bowen, being an unavoidable accident.” The jury included Howard Dorsett, John R. Wilkins, Wilber Whitmer, Courtland Whitmer, John H. Wilkins and J.W. Gish.

The boy, according to evidence, was in the middle of the road, and on seeing the car coming, darted across the road, then back into the pathway of the car, as the driver attempted to turn his wheel and avoid the accident.

Surviving the boy are his parents and four small brothers and sisters. Burial was in the cemetery at Gallatin, Tenn.
