Shanklin, Mollie

Greenville, Ky. - Mollie Shanklin, 73, of Greenville died Friday at her residence. She was a native of Trenton, NJ, and was a member of First Baptist Church on Cherry Street where she was in the Missionary Society and was a deaconess.

Survivors include her husband, Dallas Shanklin.

Services are 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation at Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville.

Shanks, Harvey

Harvey Shanks, 64, Is Buried Oct. 12

Bremen - Harvey Shanks, 64, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Bremen, died at Evansville Thursday, Oct. 10 at 4 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jody Mae Shanks; three sons, Delfred and Darrell of Evansville and Gary Shanks of Booneville; brother, Clarence Shanks of Sebree; one grandchild.

Services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. S.A. Kittinger officiating. Burial was in Shaver's Chapel Cemetery.

Sharp, Henry Nelson

Henry Nelson Sharp Dead.

Central City, Ky., May 22 - Mr. Henry Nelson Sharp, a prominent and well known farmer and pioneer settler of Muhlenberg county, died yesterday afternoon at his home near Nelson, of a complication of diseases. He was seventy-three years old, was well known for his many noble traits of character, his kindness and charity. He was a bachelor, and leaves only one sister, Mrs. Abram Howerton, of Central City, and one brother, Sam Sharp.

Sharp, King

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock for King Sharp, age 55, who died Sunday evening at 6 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Minnie Young, of this city.

Mr. Sharp had been in bad health for some time, but his condition was not considered serious until about two weeks ago. He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Dave Hutchins and Mrs. Richardson, both of Nelson, Ky.; Mrs. Grace Young and Mrs. Minnie Young, both of this city; also two brothers, Jimmie Sharp, of this city and Marvin Sharp, of Beech Creek, Ky.

Interment was at the Mount Olive cemetery.

Shaver, John Morehead

John M. Shaver, 88, Dies in Indianapolis

John Morehead Shaver, 88, of Indianapolis, Ind., died suddenly at 9:15 a.m. Saturday [1968] at his home.

He is a former resident of Central City and served as janitor of the high school for many years. He was a member of First Methodist Church here.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Allie Shaver of Indianapolis; daughter, Mrs. Lucille Shaver of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Otha Curd of Greencastle, Indiana; half-sister, Mrs. Flora Mathis of Murray; brother, E.G. Shaver of Central City.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Central City by the Rev. Richard Ramsey, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and the Rev. Robert Haver [sic] of Hopkinsville. Burial was in Shaver's Chapel Cemetery at Bremen.

Shaver, Joseph Bourland

Bourland Shaver Dies in Detroit

Greenville -Joseph Bourland (Donkey) Shaver, of Detroit, Mich., died there about 6:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25.

He was a native of Greenville, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Shaver. He was a novelty distributor.

Survivors include his wife; sister, Mrs. Mary Byrd Shaver Carden of Kerrville, Texas; brother, Edwin Wood Shaver of Louisville.

Funeral services will be Thursday under the direction of Gary Funeral Home in Greenville.

Mrs. Nannie Shaver is taken by death
Funeral services held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, Thursday, at Bremen church.

Mrs. Nannie Shaver, 72 years old, city, widow of Henry Shaver, died at 1:35 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy McCartney on West Fifth street.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Thursday, at the Bremen Presbyterian Church by the Rev. S.A. Kittinger. Interment was in the Shaver's graveyard.

Mrs. Shaver had lived in Central City for many years, coming here from Bremen. She is survived by six children, three daughters and three sons: Roy Shaver of Reading, Ohio, Mrs. Hattie Donovan of Cincinnati, Ohio, John Shaver, H.B. Shaver and Mrs. Harvey Lane of Detroit, and Mrs. Roy McCartney, city; one brother, Pete David, city. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and four step-daughters, Mrs. G. Garst of Sacramento, Mrs. Finn West of McLean County, Mrs. Harvey Bochman and Mrs. Verdie Furniff of Nashville.

Shaver, Ollie F.

Mrs. Shaver Dies Dec. 21 [1968]

Central City - Mrs. Ollie F. Shaver, 88, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at a nursing home in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Born in Muhlenberg County on July 28, 1880, she is survived by one daughter, Miss Lucille Shaver of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; one brother, James Fentress; four sisters, Mrs. Sallie Gwynn, Mrs. Arthur Bennett, and Mrs. Delia Stirsman, all of Central City; and Mrs. Arnold Settle of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Shaver officiating.

Shaver, Robert E.

Former UK Engineering Dean Dies
Private services were conducted today for Robert E. Shaver, former dean of the University of Kentucky College of Engineering and later director of the UK Physical Development Division.

Mr. Shaver, 67, a resident of Captiva Island, Fla., since 1969, died Sunday after a long illness.

Greenville - Hayes U. Sheldon, 58, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday in Kirwood Hospital, Detroit, Mich.

A member of Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Flora Sheldon, seven sons, Lawrence, Wallace, Herman and Walter, all of Louisville, Ernest, of Greenville, Hayes of Paducah, and David of the US Army; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Leggs of Greenville, Mrs. Loretta Allen of Greenville and Mrs. Hazel Spencer of New York City; several grandchildren; one brother, H.T. Sheldon of New York City; one sister, Mrs. Freddie Moss of Palo Alto, Calif.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. H.L. Hall conduting the services. Burial will be in the Rhodes Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call the Bibbs Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today.

Shelton, Lula Bogard

Central City - Mrs. Lula Bogard Shelton, 82, formerly of Vine Grove, Ky., who has resided in Central City for the past 11 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Amos Stone, here, at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Shelton was born at Stithton, Ky., on July 21, 1878, and was a member of the Vine Grove Methodist Church, and the Eastern Star.

Her husband was the late Kirk Shelton. She is survived by one son, John H. Shelton, Louisville; and one daughter, Mrs. Stone; three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Nelson-Edelen Funeral Home, Vine Grove, by the Rev. John Brinson, pastor of the First Methodist Church, there. Burial will be in Vine Grove Cemetery.

The body has been removed from the Tucker Funeral Home to Vine Grove.

Shelton, Paul E.

Cpl. Paul Shelton, USAF, Dies in Puerto Rico

Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Shelton, Greenville, colored, have been notified by the War Department of the death of their son, Cpl. Paul Shelton, US Air Force. The body is being returned to the United States from Puerto Rico where he was stationed. Arrangements for burial are pending the arrival of his remains. The community shares with his family in their loss.

Funeral Services Held for Cpl. Paul Shelton

Funeral Services for Cpl. Paul E. Shelton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Shelton, Greenville, were held Sunday afternoon at Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Horace E. Brown officiating. Burial was in West End Cemetery.

Cpl. Shelton died February 7 while stationed in Puerto Rico. His body was returned to Greenville by an honor guard.

Surviving are his parents; one brother, Irvin Shelton; three sisters, Dorothy Shelton, Brooklyn, NY, Cordie Shelton and Helen Shelton, both of Greenville; and his grandmother, Mrs. Cordelia Ferguson.

Pallbearers were Veterans C. J. Vaught, Payton Robinson, John A. Robinson, Will H. Reynolds Jr., Phil Hurt, Hugh Gregory, James Vaught and Jack Hagoe.

Shemwell, Leonard Donald

Central City - Leonard Donald “L. D.” Shemwell, 76, of Central City died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and retired as an oil distributor and a miner. He was a member of Green River Chapel General Baptist Church, where he was a trustee. His wife, Donnie Shemwell, died in 1993.

Survivors include a son, Darrell Shemwell of Central City; two daughters, Mary Lou Shemwell and Marsha Edwards, both of Central City; four grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Shemwell of Central City; and six sisters, Joetta Richard of Central City, Abigale Mathis and Shelby Puckett, both of Culver, Ind., Mae Stone of Bremen, Ind., Dorothy Piper of Ingram, Texas, and Claudine Stone of Grovertown, Ind.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Short, Arthur

Central City - Arthur (Bubbie) Short, 82, died Sunday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was a native of Rockport, Ky. He was a retired miner.

He is survived by a son, Mitchell Short of Evansville, Ind., and a sister, Miss Jennie Short of Central City.

Services were held today at 2:30 p.m. at the Bibbs' Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alverna Bard officiating. Burial was in the Echols Cemetery.

Short, Ethram R.

Shown, Wallace Smith

Wallace Smith Shown died at his home in West Central City on April 24, Mr. Shown had not been in perfect health, but was not considered seriously ill and his death was a shock to the community.

The son of Isaac Shown, he was born in Ohio county, Kentucky, on January 25, 1890. For many years he was a valued employee of the Gibraltar Coal Company.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Oria Shown, and by his six children, Mrs. Sam Stone, Walter Shown, Mrs. Marvin Addington, Mrs. L.T. Simpson, Mrs. William Sorrells, and Miss Marjorie Shown.

The funeral was conducted on April 23 at North Creek Church in Ohio county, the services being in charge of Rev. Snell and Rev. Mayhew, of Hartford. Interment was in the Shown family plot in Carson cemetery in Ohio county near Hartford.

Shrewsberry, Fred

Central City - Fred Shrewsberry, 68, of Central City, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 1994, at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born in South Carrollton, was a shop foreman for Henry Cisney Chevrolet in Central City before retiring, and was a member of South Carrollton Baptist Church. He was a squad leader and truck driver in the Army during World War II and received a Victory Medal, a service stripe and a Good Conduct Medal. His wife, Mildred Jagoe Shrewsberry, died Dec. 25, 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Shrewsberry and James Gregory Coleman, both of Central City; four grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Moore of Indianapolis; and several nieces, ephews and cousins.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Central City. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Shrewsberry, James Rufus

South Carrollton - James Rufus Shrewsberry, 84, died Sunday at Muhlenberg County Hospital. A native of Ohio County, he had spent most of his life in South Carrollton. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Shrewsberry; two sons, J. W. Shrewsberry of Central City, and Hershel Shrewsberry of South Carrollton; three grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at South Carrollton Baptist Church under the direction of the Rev. W. C. Grace. Burial will be in South Carrollton Cemetery.

Shrewsberry, Mildred

Central City - Mildred Shrewsberry, 60, of Central City died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1993, at the Regional Medical Center, Madisonville. She was born in Graham, the daughter of the late Estill and Florence Jagoe. She was a former employee of the Sparks Rest Home and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and was a soloist. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbert Jagoe and William Jagoe; and by two sisters, Thelma Jagoe and Pauline Wimbley.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Shrewsberry; two sons, Michael Shrewsberry and James Gregory Coleman, both of Central City; four grandchildren; two brothers, John Jagoe and Claude Jagoe, both of Central City; a sister, Florence Tyler of Owensboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Central City. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.

Shultz, Lena

Central City - Mrs. Lena Shultz, 82, of Central City died at her home at 1:45 a.m. Monday.

She was born on Feb. 29, 1883, in Paradise, Ky., and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Central City.

Survivors include three daughters, Miss Florence Shultz, Miss Rhodie Shultz and Mrs. Hazel Fuller, all of Central City.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. George Thomas, pastor. Burial will be in West End Cemetery in Greenville.

Shutt, Ida

Mrs. Ida Shutt, 83, Dies Early Saturday Morning

Mrs. Ida Shutt, 83, died January 12 at 3 a.m. at her home on West Cross Street in Greenville. She was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Greenville.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Christian Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 13 with the Rev. Wilbur Wallace, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. A.B. Gross, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: J.L. Cary of Russellville, Ray Cary of Hopkinsville, Harold DePoyster, H.B. McPherson, O.R. Shutt, and Bob Hudspeth.

She is survived by two sons, Leslie Shutt, Glasgow, and Ira Shutt, Greenville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Shutt, William T.

W.T. Shutt, a well known citizen of the Rosewood country died on 29th inst. at his home at 3 p.m. after a long illness from pulmonary trouble. He was about 46 years of age and leaves a wife and three children who will have the sympathy of the community in their sad loss. He was buried Tuesday evening at the family burying ground at Atlas Shutt's. He was the brother of Messrs. James and Atlas Shutt.
