Staples, Molinda Jane

Cleaton, Ky. - Molinda Jane Staples, 83, of Cleaton died Thursday at Golden Years Inc., Calhoun. She was born in Butler County and was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Celia Staples and Iva Lowe, both of Cleaton, and Lousia Mathis of Pleasure Ridge Park, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City. Visitation at the funeral home.

Staples, Thomas J.

Thomas J. Staples, 71, Farmer, Dies Monday

Thomas J. Staples, 71, farmer, died suddenly at 12 noon, Monday in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ealia Creager Staples; one son, T.G. Staples of Petersburg, Mich.; five daughters, Mrs. William Bastin, Central City, Route 2; Mrs. C.L. Slayton, Deerfield, Mich.; Mrs. E.L. Winstead, Belovan, Ill.; Mrs. Willie Baxter, Central City, Route 2; and Mrs. Ed Beaven of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, John Staples, Central City and Charles Staples, Greenville; one sister, Mrs. J.W. Staples, Central City.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Nelson Creek Church with the Rev. Dewey Noffsinger officiating, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Roy Geary. Burial will be in the Nelson Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Staples was a member of the Nelson Creek Baptist Church and had lived in the community for many years.

Steed, George A.

Former resident of county dies
Death comes to George A. Steed, who moved from Drakesboro to Portsmouth, O., in 1924.

George A. Steed, a former resident of Drakesboro, died in Portsmouth, Ohio, Wednesday, June 28. His body will be brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. Dora Steed, of Drakesboro for burial Saturday, July 1.

Mr. Steed was formerly connected with the Steed Bros. Coal Co. He left Drakesboro in 1924 to make his home in Portsmouth.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lola Mansfield Steed; his mother, Mrs. Dora Steed of Drakesboro, two brothers, Sherman Steed and Will Steed, both of Drakesboro; four sisters, Mrs. L.E. Price of Madison, W.Va., Mrs. R.E. Newman and Mrs. Harvey Sumner, both of Drakesboro, and Mrs. R.E. Barton of Cincinnati.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Steele, James Monroe

James Monroe Steele, 67, of Pacific, Mo., died there Thursday. He was born in Muhlenberg County.

Survivors include his wife, Lorell Arnold Steele; three sons, Kenneth, James Perry and Michael Glenn Steele; seven grandchildren and a sister, Opal Annis of Nashville.

Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Grove Baptist Church. Burial in the church cemetery. Visitation after 6 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City.

Stephens, George

Central City, Ky., Jan. 25. - George Stephens, a former resident of Central Ctiy, died Sunday morning in the Veterans hospital at Lexington, following a heart attack.

He was a son of James Stephens and Margaret Jones Stephens, and was born in Ohio county 61 years ago. When only a child he came with his parents to Central City, where his father was superintendent of the Central Coal and Iron company's property.

He was one of the first to enlist in the army when the Spanish-American war required soldiers and continued as a soldier until the end of the war.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Pallbeaers were Lucian Griffith, T.G. Morgan, E.M. Gish, Sr., J.W. Clarke, J.L. Jenkins and Richard Wines. Burial was in Fairmount cemetery.

He is survived by his three sisters, Mrs. Frank Rice, of Central City, Mrs. E.W. Shegog, of Harlan, and Mrs. W.P. Scott, of Dawson Springs.

Stevens, Bertha Hess

Shelbyville, Ky. - Mrs. Bertha Hess Stevens, 82, of Shelbyville, formerly of Central City, died Wednesday at Crestview Nursing Home, Shelbyville. She was born in Daviess County and was a member of a United Methodist church in Owensboro and the Rebekah Lodge of Central City.

Survivors include a son, Earl Hess of Louisville and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City.

C.O. Stewart, 81, to be buried today

Madisonville - Charlie Owen Stewart, 81, of Madisonville, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday in Hopkins County Hospital.

Mr. Stewart was born in Muhlenberg County on Dec. 27, 1885, the son of the late Crawford and Ellen Shanks Stewart. He was a member of the Main Street General Baptist Church of Madisonville.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Maddox of Madisonville; son, U.O. Maddox of Evansville; brother, George Maddox of Madisonville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) by the Rev. Owen Ray Fulcher, minister of Main Street General Baptist Church, with burial to be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Gracie G. Stewart, 71, Dies June 27 [1957]

Greenville - Gracie Garnett Stewart, 71, died at the home of his son, T. H. Stewart on Greenville Route 1 Thursday, June 27 at 1:20 p.m. He was a retired coal miner born in Hopkins County Feb. 1, 1886. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Mercer Baptist Church where funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 30 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Archie Putman of Morton's Gap officiating. Burial was in Corley's Chapel Cemetery.

He is survived by three sons, Paul Stewart of Powderly, Darrel Stewart of St. Joe, Mich., T.H. Stewart of Greenville Route 1; daughter, Mrs. Pearl Stringer of Detroit, Mich.; six grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. William Gossett of Depoy, Mrs. J.B. Whitlock of Eldorado, Ill., Mrs. H.E. Garris of Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. Thelma Clemons of Graham; brother, Dewey Stewart of Madisonville.

Stewart, Hattie Mildred

Bremen - Mrs. Hattie Mildred Stewart, 80, of Route 3, Central City, died yesterday at Hopkins County Hospital, Madisonville. Born in Muhlenberg County the daughter of the late Flurry and Katherine Noffsinger, she was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Albert Stewart; three sons, Raymond Stewart, Route 3, Central City; Jessie Stewart, Sacramento, and Delbert Stewart, Route 3, Central City; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Grundy, Bremen; Mrs. Geneva Matheny, Madisonville, and Mrs. Doroty St. Clair, Route 3, Central City; 28 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, with the Rev. Ora DeArmond, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and the Rev. W.F. Thompson, pastor of Fairview Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial in Gish Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

Stirsman, Delia Mae

Mrs. Delia Stirsman Dies Friday Morning

Central City - Mrs. Delia Mae Stirsman, 83, died Friday, January 7, at 1:40 a.m. in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Muhlenberg County on November 20, 1888, she was a member of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Mr. Lemuel Stirsman, Route 3, Central City; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters: Mrs. Sallie Gwinn, Central City and Mrs. Flora Settles, St. Petersburg, Florida; one brother: Mr. Jimmy Fentress, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Services were held Sunday, January 9, at 2 p.m. in the Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Roy Geary of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. S.A. Kittinger. Burial followed in the Shaver Chapel Cemetery.

Stobaugh, John Ephrim

Central City - John Ephrim Stobaugh, 79, died at his home here at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday.

He was a retired railroader, born in Muhlenberg County, and a member of the Trinity Pentecost Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Stovaugh; three daughters, Mrs. Macon Poe, LaPorte, Ind.; Mrs. Sid Rager, Central City; Mrs. Oscar Vincent, Greenville; three sons, Bill and Walton, Central City, Gene, Chicago; five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Harold Ashby of Evansville, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

The body is at the Funeral Home.

Pascal Stobaugh, 45, Buried Today

Greenville - Pascal Stobaugh, 45, died at his home on Greenville Route 1 Tuesday July 30 at 12:30 p.m. following a brief illness. Funeral services are being conducted today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the New Cypress Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Fox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Stobaugh of Greenville Route 1; daughter, Mrs. Teddie Stewart of Chicago, Ill.; son, Leon Stobaugh of Greenville Route 1; three brothers, Harvey Stobaugh of Greenville Route 1, John Stobaugh of Graham, Bill Stobaugh of Depoy; two sisters, Mrs. Charlie Ferguson and Mrs. Everett Jackson of Greenville Route 1.

Stokes, Thomas Reynolds

Thomas Stokes Dead.
After an illness that has confined him to his bed for less than a month Mr. Thomas Stokes died at his home near Depoy Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, of pulmonary complication. He was in his 47th. year, and leaves a widow and six children. Mr. Stokes was one of the foremost farmers in the county, and a man that stood high in the esteem of his neighbors. The county has sustained a distinct loss in his death, as he was a citizen always in the front rank in any movement of development. He had never joined any church, but some weeks ago made a profession of religion. Rev. G.B. McDonald preached his funeral sermon at the home yesterday morning at 9.30 o'clock, and the body was buried in Everygreen cemetery at 1.30 p.m., a large crowd being in attendance.

Storer, Harry F.

Central City - H.F. Storer, 84, of Central City, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 5:15 a.m. Sunday.

He had owned and operated the Storer Jewelry Store here since 1900. He was born and raised in Olney, Ill., on March 3, 1881. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was a 60-year member of Central Lodge No. 673, F&AM, and Rispah Shrine Temple.

Survivng are his wife, Mrs. Nola Stewart Storer and one daughter, Miss Nell Storer of Central City.

Private services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eugene Thompson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. A.B. Gross, pastor of Presbyterian Church at Greenville. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery here.

Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Presbyterian Childrens Fund in care of First National Bank of Central City.

The body is at the Tucker Funeral Home.

Central City - James Ernest Stovall, 87, of Central City, died at Muhlenberg Community Hospital yesterday. Born in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Mercer Baptist Church and a retired miner.

Surviving are a son, James Brooks Stovall, Waynesville, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald Vincent, Central City; a foster daughter, Mrs. Harold Young, Central City; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services 2 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. W.R. Cook, pastor of First Baptist Church, Central City, officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Central City. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. Della Strader, 65, Dies Friday Near Dunmor

Mrs. Della King Strader, 65, died at her home near Dunmor at 6:20 p.m., Friday, January 11, following a lingering illness.

Funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Sunday at the Dunmor Baptist Church, Rev. Barbee Mercer officiating, assisted by Rev. Ward, the pastor. Burial was in DeArmond Cemetery.

She is survived by a son, James D. Strader of Belton, a daughter, Mrs. Anthony Skipworth of Dunmor; eight grandchildren; one brother, Joe King of Beech Creek, and a sister, Mrs. Albert Knight of Dunmor.

Greenville - Fred Strain, 71, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following an illness of several weeks.

Born in Muhlenberg County July 24, 1897, he had lived in the Rosewood Community all of his life. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Myers Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Miss Dorothy Strain, Rt. 2, Greenville, Mrs. Opal Cameron, Owensboro; a granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Dukes, Rt. 2, Greenville, Mrs. A. P. Scott, Grand Rapids, Mich.; four brothers, Doc and Guy Strain, both of Rt. 2, Greenville, Oscar Strain, Rochester, Ky., Emory Strain, Owensboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Rosewood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Carver, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Victor Phelps. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Streets, Maurine

Drakesboro - Mrs. Maurine Streets, 80, of Drakesboro, died yesterday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness. Born in Ohio County, she was a member of the Muhlenberg County Republican Women's Club, Golden Link Rebecca Lodge and Drakesboro Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Women's Missionary Union at the church.

Surviving are her husband, John F. Streets, two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Rhoades, Bremen, and Mrs. Virginia Brown, Evansville, a stepson, a stepdaughter and several grandchildren.

Services 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker-Washburne-Pannell Funeral Home, Central City, with the Rev. Ronald Burnett officiating. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4:30 p.m. today.

Stringer, John Hamilton

Central City, Ky., May 20. (AP) - Funeral services for John Hamilton Stringer, 82-year-old retired farmer of the Cleaton section of Muhlenberg county, were held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the residence, with the Rev. Stewart, of the Beech Creek Baptist church in charge. Burial was in the Sears cemetery, near Drakesboro.

Mr. Stringer diedat 10:30 o'clock Wednesday, of complications, incident to advanced age. He had lived in Muhlenberg county most of his life and was highly esteemed by his friends and neighbors. Surviving are the widow, two sons, John and William, of near Cleaton; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Dennis, near Drakesboro, and a large number of grandchildren.

Stringer, Lanom

Sacramento - Lanom (Cotton) Stringer, 86, of Sacramento, died Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11:15 a.m. at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was a retired employee of Veterans Administration Hospital, Louisville, a World War I veteran and formerly had operated a truck line in Sacramento.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jane Hayurst of Indianapolis and Mrs. Linda Lea of Louisville; sister, Mrs. Pearl Nichols of Bremen.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Sacramento with the Rev. M.R. Butler officiating. Burial was in Sacramento Methodist Church Cemetery.

Central City, Ky., Oct. 24 - Baxter Stroud, retired farmer, old resident of Central City died at the home of his niece, Mrs. J.D. Jenkins on Third street, Tuesday morning, of dropsy. He was 69 years of age. The funeral will be conducted from the residence, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. W.L. Davis, pastor of local Christian church. Interment at Fairmount cemetery. He is survived by two brothers, Tom Stroud of this city; William Stroud, of Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Lucy Jones, Mrs. Sadie Lam, of this city; Mrs. Fannie Hudson and Mrs. Daniel Miller of Milano, Texas.

Stroud, John

John Stroud, 82, of 805 West Oak Street, Herrin, died this morning at 5 a.m. at the Herrin Hospital after an illnes of several years. Mr. Stroud was born in Central City, Ky. in 1864, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stroud. He was a coal miner and a resident of Herrin for the past 45 years. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ann Stroud; and his children, William Stroud of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Amelia Guthrie of Harrods Creek, KY, Mrs. James Bailie of Herrin, Dan Stroud of Louisville, KY, and Mrs. Jennie Moore of Herrin. The funeral will be at the Storme Funeral Home, Friday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Erven C. Lee officiating. Burial will be at the Herrin City Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Storme Funeral Home.

Stuart, Judson

Greenville - Judson Stuart, 82, died at 9:20 p.m. Saturday in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following an illness of three weeks.

He was born in Muhlenberg County April 24, 1886, and lived on Route 2, Greenville. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Hazel Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maucie Stuart; one son, Duncan Stuart, Route 2, Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Della Clardy of Belton and Mrs. Linnie Mohon, Pueblo, Col.; two brothers, A. B. Stuart, Beech Creek, and Melvin Stuart of Franklin.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Hazel Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Raymond McDonald, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Fred Fox. Burial will be in the Hazel Creek Cemetery.

The body is at the Gary Funeral Home.

Stum, Susanah

Mrs. Susanah Stum wife of Alney M. Stum, died last Thursday of paralysis. She was stricken down the Sunday preceeding very suddenly, and never spoke afterwards. Mr. Stum lives in this county, near Paradise, Muhlenberg county.
