Swann, George Dewey

Greenville - George Dewey Swann, 70, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following an illness of several weeks.

He was born in Springfield, Tenn., Feb. 16, 1900, and was employed by the American Bakery Company in Louisville for the past 28 years.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Alice B. Swann of Louisville; two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Bennett of Greenville, Mrs. Helen Barnett of Madisonville; two brothers, John and James Swann, both of Central City.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gary Funeral Home by Dr. Robert Shaver, assisted by Rev. Tom Shifflett. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The body is at the Gary Funeral Home where friends may call after 3 p.m. today.

Swann, James Frey

Central City, Ky. - James Frey Swann, 68, of Central City died Saturday at Hopkins County Hospital, Madisonville. He was born in Hopkins County and was a retired grocery clerk.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Swan; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Horchner of Excanaba, Mich.; two grandchildren; a brother, John Swan of Central City and two sisters, Beatrice Bennett of Greenville and Helen Barnett of Madisonville.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial in Rose Hill Cmeetery. Visitation after 2 p.m. Monday.

Swann, Mary Williamson

Central City - Mrs. Mary Williamson Swann, 88, died at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 5 a.m. today. She was born in Tennessee, Oct. 11, 1876, and was a member of First Methodist Church, Central City.

Surviving are three sons, Dewey Swann, Louisville; John and James Swann, both of Central City; two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Bennett, Greenville, and Mrs. Helen Barnett of Madisonville; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Boze Draper, Miami, Fla., and one sister, Mrs. Ella Forrester of Chicago.

The body is at the Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Swearer, Doshia B.

Mrs. J.T. Swearer, 93, of 417 E. Third St., died at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville, Ky., following an illness of six months.

The body is at the Delbert J. Glenn Funeral Home here [Owensboro].

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Dr. Will Sessions, pastor of First Christian Church, assisted by the Rev. A.D. Gross of Greenville, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers: John L. Perguson, J.T. Pointer, Robert Laswell, Ed Speer, Carl Bethel and R.H. Griffith.

Sweeney, Eloise

Mrs. Sweeney, 32, Buried July 12

Greenville - Mrs. Eloise Sweeney, 32, died Wednesday, July 9, at 10:58 p.m. at her home in Chicago, Ill. She was born May 1, 1937 and had lived for the past 14 years in Chicago.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Sweeney of Chicago; four daughters, Alice Faye, Kathy, Marlene, and Sharon, all at home; three sons, Jerry, Roger and Patrick, all at home; mother, Mrs. Kathy Johnson of Evansville, Ind.

Services were Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at Joines Chapel General Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Groves, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Ray Sweeney. Burial was in the Joines Cemetery.

Sweeney, Elsie

Greenville - Mrs. Elsie Sweeney, 69, of Route 1, Greenville, died Tuesday at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of Greenville Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, John H. Sweeney; a son, Larry Thomas of Hammond, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. Katie Brown of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Margaret Stillwell of North Carolina, and Mrs. Sua Nell Corrodetti of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Edward Arms of Hardinsburg and Alfred Arms of Fern Dale, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stanley and Mrs. Opal Phillips, both of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Jo Fortney of Central City; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services 2 p.m. Friday at Gary Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. James Doyle officiating. Burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

Sweeney, Goldie Mae

Greenville, Ky. - Mrs. Goldie Mae Sweeney, 43, of Route 2, Greenville died early Sunday at Hopkins County Hospital, Madisonville, after a short illness. She was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Muhlenberg County.

Surviving are her husband, Melvin Sweeney of Route 2, Greenville; three sons, Ronald of Elkton, William E. of Route 2, Greenville, and James Freeman Sweeney of Route 2, Greenville; three step-sons, Foster Sweeney of Central City, Dariel Sweeney of Graham, and Randal Sweeney of Route 2, Greenville; a daughter, Miss Rosa Sweeney of Route 2, Greenville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Yonts of Route 2, Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Frances Bivins of Greenville, Mrs. Agnes Buanco of Long Beach, Calif., and Miss Louise Vincent of Central City; four brothers, Emmett Vincent of Evansville, Ind., James Vincent of Evansville, Will J. Vincent of Long Beach, Calif., and Jack Vincent of Greenville; eight step-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren [sic].

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Gary Funeral Home, with the Rev. Victor Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Sweeney, John H.

Central City - John H. Sweeney, 75, of 302 N. Seventh St., Central City, died Thursday, April 4, 1985, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lillith Sweeney; a daughter, Mary Jo Fortney of Central City; two grandsons; and a sister, Myrtle Hendrix of Greenville.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Central City. Visitation after 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sweeney, Martha

Aged Woman Dies.

Mrs. Martha Sweeney, aged 85 years, died at the home of Mr. H. W. Tooley at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, from the complications of age. She was one of the pioneer women of the county, widely known and universally loved. Interment was in the Williams graveyard Olive Grove Church Tuesday afternoon, and was largely attended.

Sweeney, Melvin Olan

Greenville - Melvin Olan Sweeney, 84, of Route 2, Greenville, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 1994, at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was a retired truck driver and farmer.

Survivors inlcude his wife, Gracie Sweeney of Route 2, Greenville; six sons, Foster Sweeney of Central City, Darriel Sweeney of Graham, Randall Sweeney and Jim Sweeney, both of Route 2, Greenville, Ronald Sweeney of Livermore and William Sweeney of Clifty; two daughters, Dorothy Yonts and Rose Sweeney, both of Route 2, Greenville; one stepson, Jerry Coursey of Clifty; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Marvin Sweeney of Route 2, Greenville, and Euell Sweeney of Princeton; one aunt, Flossie Miller of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial in Greenbriar School House Cemetery, Route 2, Greenville. Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.
