Transcription

I, Sarah J. Oates, widow of J. Wallace Oates, decd., of Muhlenberg County and state of Kentucky, do hereby make this my last will and testament.

First: I appoint my brother Henry G. Earles, my sister Susan V. Slaton, widow of W.D. Slaton, and my brother-in-law George W. Sparks, or any two of them, concurring, to act as my executors, agents and attorneys in fact, to act in my stead and in my behalf, for the management and disposition of all my personal property, and for the discharge and execution of all my duties and obligations as administrattrix of the estate of my deceased husband and the dishcarge and execution of all my duties and obligations as guardian of our children as shown by the bonds now filed in the office of the clerk of the county court of said county as such administratrix and guardian; and for the payment and liquidation of all debts or other obligations for which I am responsible or bound both personally and officially and for the collection of all debts or dues either to myself or to the estate of my deceased husband, and to account for the same as provided by law.

I request and direct an equal distribution of my property of whatever nature, as well as the assests of my deceased husband among all our children as required by the statutes of said state. I desire that all of our children shall be provided with comfortable homes together on our old homestead during their infancy or minority.

I recommend to the Judge of the county court of said county and state the appointment of my sister Susan V. Slaton, wife of W.D. Slaton, of Hopkins County, Kentucky, as guardian of and for all of the children of myself and deceased husband under the safeguards and protection of the laws and statutes of said state for the benefit and protection of infants and minors, and their estates.

In testimony of all the provisions and articles of this insturment, I hereunto subscribe my name. This 29 day of August 1904.

I, Ed. S. Wood, clerk of the Muhlenberg County Court, certificate that the foregoing was this day admitted to probate by said court as the last will and testament of Sarah J. Oates, deceased, and as such was ordered to be recorded, whereupon the same and this certificate have been duly recorded in my office.
