Kiddville Church - 1870

At Kiddville, Clark Co., at the northeast corner of Indian Old Fields. In June 1870 a band of Baptists constituted Kiddville Baptist Church with 35 members. Dr. L.B. Woolfolk delivered the charge to the church.

Three of the constituent members were Dr. J.T. Wilkerson, C.C. Eastin and C. Maston. Elder W. Arvin was the first pastor; served 8 months.

He was succeeded by Rev. T.I. Wells in April 1871 and served until the following Nov. (see Ephesus Church).

Rev. J.C. Wray accepted the pastorate in June 1872 for a short while.

Rev. J. Pike Powers became their under-shepherd in June 1873 and served 8 years. Under his efforts a church was built, which was completed in 1876.

Rev. J.Dallas Simmons became pastor in July 1881 until May 1883 when he resigned.

Rev. J.R. Barbee became their pastor in June 1884 and served one year.

Rev. J. Dallas Simmons again became pastor in August 1885, serving 2 years.

In 1876 F. Hensley was church clerk.

Rev. Richard French accepted the pastorate in 1894, serving 6 years (see Ephesus Church). He was again called in 1908 and served 2 years.

Obituary of Bro. C.C. Eastin, one of the constituent members of Kiddville Church, prepared by Rev. George Varden, appeared in the minutes of Boone's Creek Assn. in 1893: "Christopher Columbus Eastin was called home March 21, 1893 in his 65th year. After the death of Dr. Wilkerson, he became the senior deacon."

Bro. O.P. Bush became pastor in Jan. 1906 and C.W. Boone clerk, with 58 members.

In March 1906 L.M. Hardy was chosen as clerk. Bros. T.E. Eastin and W.Z. Eubank ordained deacons.

In April 1906 the church voted that no member of the church shall manufacture, sell or use intoxicants, subject to expulsion.

In July 1907 a series of meetings were held, with 5 additions.

Cecil Daniel was chosen as clerk in 1910 and is still the acting clerk (in 1923).

In May 1912 Clifton Daniel was ordained as deacon.

Rev. O.J. Stiggers was supply from Nov. 1912 to Nov. 1913, at which time he accepted the pastorate and served until Jan. 1915, when Rev. E.M. Foster was called and remained until June 1917.

In Aug. 1917 Rev. E.V. May became their leader, remaining until July 1919. He was succeeded by Rev. H.B. Duncan in Sept. 1919.

No further records until May 1921, when Rev. Duncan resigned.

C.W. Boone was a great grandson of Squire Boone, the first Baptist preacher ever on the soil of Ky. C.W. Boone united by experience with Providence Church (at the old Stone Meeting House on Lower Howard's Creek) in 1861 and was ordained a deacon in 1862. In 1869 he was one of a committee to solicit subscriptions to erect a new church building for Providence Church. Soon after the new building was erected Bro. Boone moved to Kiddville. He taught school for 50 years in Clark Co.

Rev. F.B. Pierson became pastor of Kiddville in June 1921 and served until Jan 1923. The church has at present (1923) 114 members. Bro. Stanley Clay is Supt. of Sunday School.

In May 1923 a call was extended to Rev. Linville Jones, and he is their pastor (1923) and also pastor of Ephesus Church.

The Kiddville Church has entertained 5 annual sessions of Boone's Creek Assn., in 1871, 1880, 1894, 1904 and 1916.
