In the name of God Amen. I John McNary of the County of Muhlenberg & Commonwealth of Kentucky, being advanced in years, but of sound mind & memory & knowing the uncertainty of life & the certainty of death, have thought it advisable to make this my last will & testament. That is to say, I desire that my body be buried in a decent & Christian manner & that all of my just debts be paid as soon thereafter as may be.
I give & bequeath unto my beloved wife Ann McNary all my household & kitchen furniture, or so much thereof as she may choose to keep, also my cupboard & desk, one horse creature, two milch cows and I also give & bequeath unto her my negro girl Mary & her increase and my negro boy Lunn for & during her natural lifetime, together with as many hogs as she may choose to retain.
I will and desire that my negro man Isaac and the balance of my personal estate be sold & after paying my just debts, that the residue be divided in such way as to give equal shares to my beloved wife & each of my children & to my four grandchildren Jane, Lucy, John & Samuel, the children of my son Samuel McNary decd., a like share, that is to say a child's part & to my grandson Robert Blue, son of my daughter Ann deceased, half of a like share, that is to say half a child's part.
I will & desire that the two hundred acre tract of land on which I now live, & the fifty acre tract whereon my son Samuel formerly lived & adjoining the tract on which I live, be sold & the proceeds divided as aforesaid that is to say to each of my children an equal part, & to my four grandchildren, the children of Samuel McNary, together a like equal part, that is to say a child's part, & to my grandson Robert Blue, half a child's part.
At the death of my beloved wife, it is my will that the property herein before bequeathed her be sold and the proceeds divided amongst my children & grandchildren in the same manner as the proceeds of the land aforesaid.
I hereby constitute & appoint my friend Hugh W. McNary sole Executor of this my last will & testament & hereby revoke all other wills made by me & declare this & no other my last will & testament. Witness my hand & seal this 30th day of August 1830.
