Stephen Wright Will

Transcription

In the name of God Amen. I, Stephen Wright, of the county of Muhlenberg and state of Kentucky being weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory, calling to mind the shortness of life and the certainty of death, and wishing to dispose of what property God has been pleased to bless me with, do order and make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others heretofore made or expressed by me.

1st, It is my will and desire after my decease that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.

2nd, I give and bequeath to my wife a note I hold against James S. Smith for the sum of sixty five dollars, a forty dollar horse and forty dollars in money, besides all the household and kitchen furniture she owned at the time her and myself were married.

3rd, I give and bequeath to my two sons James H. Wright and Reece B. Wright all my land and my negro girl to be divided equally between them.

4th, I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann G. Smith the sum of twenty dollars to be paid by my two sons jointly.

5th, I give and bequeath to my son Reece B. Wright all my personal property with the exception made to my wife Polly in the second bequest in this will.

6th, I hereby appoint my oldest son James H. Wright and wish the county court not to require security of him for the faithful discharge of his duty as executor.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, this the 9” day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two.

The foregoing last will and testament of Stephen Wright Decd. was produced to court and proved to be the act and deed of the said Stephen Wright Decd. by the oath of William G. Jones one of the subscribing witnesses thereto who also proved the attestation of A. Craig the other subscribing witness, and the same is ordered to be recorded which is accordingly done.
