John Nunley
moved to Bon from McMinnville, Tennessee in 1911 with his dad. John began
working
at Bon helping his dad,
Alex at the sawmill
at age 11; he worked as a boiler fireman. Mr. Peck, the sawmill owner, “…sometimes
was slow to pay which didn’t set too well with John. On a certain payday
Mr. Pack again claimed he didn’t have the money to pay John. It is
said that when John Nunley came to get his pay with a pistol, he got the
money.”
John married
Joie Hinkle June 1, 1923. John died March 16, 1979. “John moved a
lot. It is said he moved out of one house in Bon and moved back in before
the
fire went out. He moved more times than
his
wife Joie could count. John’s feeling was if you were willing to
work, you could always get a job.”
