Waddle, Mitchell
1952-1996 Mitchell Waddle, 43, of Lodi, Ohio, died
Monday, February 26 1996 at Cleveland Metro Health
Medical Center. He was born in Paintsville and was a
Medina County resident for 26 years. Mr. Waddle was a
self-employed carpenter and a member of Lodi American
Legion Post 523 and an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He
served in the U.S. Army between 1974 and 1976. He is
survived by his wife, one daughter, Cheryl Betts of
Lodi; one stepdaughter, Stephanie Ryan of West Salem;
two stepsons, Michael Barnum and Shawn Hubler, both of
Lodi; his mother, Flora Mae Waddle of Lodi; three
brothers, Malcom Waddle of Litchfield, Frank Waddle of
Lodi and Marvin Waddle of Medina. He was preceded in
death by his father Funeral services were held Friday,
March 1, at the Waite and Son Funeral Home with Rev.
David Shimp officiating. Burial was at the Woodlawn
Cemetery at Lodi.

Wakeland, Viola (Billiter)
1926-1996 Viola Wakeland, 69, died February 23
1996 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland. Mrs.
Wakeland was born March 11, 1926, in Pikeville, the
daughter of the late Benjamin and Jettie Huffman
Billiter. She was a nurse at the Paintsville Hospital
and numerous nursing homes in Cleveland, Ohio, and a
member of the Mavity Freewill Baptist Church. She was
also preceded in death by a son, Donald Lee Wakeland.
Surviving are one son, Gary Michael Wakeland of
Brunswick, Ohio; three brothers, Howard Billiter of
Paintsville, Ralph Billiter of Riceville, and Terry
Billiter of Deland, Florida; two sisters, Aretta Collins
of Ashland and Shelby Damron of Stanton; and one
granddaughter. Funeral services were held Monday,
February 26, at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, Ohio.

Walters, James Howard
1933-1996 Retired manager James Howard Walters,
62, died February 29 1996 in Salyersville. Mr. Walters
was born April 27, 1933, in Johnson County, the son of
the late Alan and Lydia Stanaford Walters. He was
retired from the grocery business and a member of the
Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his
wife, Helen Page Walters; two sons, Terry Walters of
Dayton, Ohio, and Tim Walters of Miamisburg, Ohio; two
stepdaughters, Melissa Meek of Paintsville and Shandra
Wells of Prestonsburg; one brother, Edd Walters of
Lexington; two sisters, Barbara Turner of Lowmansviile,
and Wilma Arnett of Salyersville; and five
grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Sunday,
March 3, at Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church, with
Paul Wayne Browning and James K. Caudill officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville,
with Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ward, John Earl
-1931-2005-Funeral services will be held Thursday,
August 25, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel
for John Earl Ward, 73, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed
away Monday, August 22 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical
Center in Paintsville, Ky. Mr. Ward was born August 30,
1931 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Earl and
Hazel Messer Cartwright. He was an engineer with the
state of Kentucky. Surviving are one daughter, Lucinda
Hall of East Point, Ky.; two half-brothers, Clifford
Cartwright Jr. of Belair, Md., and Ray Ward of Florida;
and four half-sisters, Vina Cartwright Morgan of
Smithfield, N.C., Diana and Jenny Ward, both of
Paintsville, Ky., and Linda Ward of Pikeville, Ky. The
service will be officiated by a family member, with
burial in the Ward Cemetery at Offutt, Ky. Arrangements
under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of
Paintsville, Ky.

services were held Saturday, September 3, 1 p.m. at the
Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Phyllis J. Wilcox
Ward, 69, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed away
Wednesday, August 31 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical
Center of Paintsville, Ky. Mrs. Ward was born April 21,
1936 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late John
and Rosa Saddler Wilcox. She was a homemaker. She was
also preceded in death by her husband, John Russell
Ward. Surviving are one son, Jimmy Ray Ward of Herndon,
Va.; one daughter, Bonnie Sue Ward Travis of Van Lear,
Ky.; three brothers, Charles and Gayland Wilcox, both of
Ypsilanti, Mich., and Cliff Wilcox of West Van Lear,
Ky.; one sister, Kathleen Berry of Paintsville, Ky.; and
two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The service
was officiated by Mark Tackett, with burial in the
Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Webb, Lenzie -89, of
Ashland, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in King's Daughters
Medical Center. Mr. Webb was born April 12, 1916, in Oil
Springs, a son of the late Leander and Dona Salyers
Webb. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Addie
Frazier Webb, and a daughter, Brenda Webb VanHoose He
was a retired pipefitter for Ashland Oil in Ashland and
was a member of Litterals Fork United Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Burgess (Carol) Webb of Rush; four
grandchildren, Tonya (Greg) Hunter of Catlettsburg,
Tammy (Mark) Runyon of Indian Springs, Ohio, Ricky
(Lisa) VanHoose of Van Lear and Lanetta (Michael)
Spencer of Lexington; five great-grandchildren, Austin
Hunter, Katie Hunter, Courtney Runyon, Allyson Runyon
and Beth Mullins; two brothers, George Webb of Oil
Springs and Arrowood Webb of Wooster, Ohio; and two
sisters, Joy Baldwin of Lynx, Ohio, and Gladys Gullett
of Clarksville, Tenn. Funeral services will be at 11
a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Paintsville Funeral Home with
Elder Arrowood Webb and Elder Eulas Adams officiating.
Burial will be in Win Cemetery at Oil Springs. Friends
may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday
at the funeral home.

Wells, Charles " Hardware
Charlie " -( 1934 - 2005 )Charles C. Wells,
"Hardware Charlie", passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2005
at his home in Paintsville, Kentucky. Charles was born
on August 18, 1934 to the late Charles J. and Elizabeth
Rice Wells and grandson to John B. and Jenny Ward Wells.
John B. Wells was president of Citizens National Bank
about 1930 to 1958. Charles is survived by his wife,
Carlos Horn Wells of Paintsville ; his son and
daughter-in-law, Charles B. Wells and Shelia Price Wells
of Georgetown, Kentucky. Charles graduated from
Millersburg Military Academy and attended Washington and
Lee University and Transylvania University. Charles was
owner and operator of Hardware Charlie Gas Co. in
Paintsville from 1955 to his retirement in May 1996. He
serves as President of the Kentucky L.P. Gas Association
from 1972-73. In 1981, Charles was elected to the board
of directors of Citizens National Bank and served on
that board for 23 years. He was elected as the board's
chairman in April 1966. He was the first chairman of the
board of the Southern College of Osteopathic Medicine
from 1994 - 1996. Charles was the first president of the
Paintsville Jaycees. Charles enjoyed golfing, fishing,
traveling and family research. He authored and published
three genealogical reference books, " Annuls of Floyd
County Kentucky 1800- 1826", "Vital Statistics of
Johnson County Kentucky 1843-1904" and "Records from
Johnson County - 1850 ". From the last paragraph of his
forward in "Annuls of Floyd County Kentucky 1800-1826 :
" this book is not intended to be a history of Floyd
County. It is an effort on my part to preserve these
early records before they become extinct with age and
handling and by doing so will not only fill in a large
void for the Eastern Kentucky researcher but will enrich
the lives of Eastern Kentuckians now and for generations
yet to come." The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday
at Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church in Paintsville
by Gene Strange and Dennis Dorton reading the obituary.
Entombment ill be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in
Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may call from 6 to 9
tonight, June 30, 2005 at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in
Paintsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to the
following : Mayo Memorial Methodist Church, Big Sandy
Hospice, or Millersburg Military Academy. All active and
honorary pallbearers are to meet at the church no later
than 10 a.m. Friday.

Wells, Phillip
-1955-2005-Funeral services were held Friday, October 7,
11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for
Phillip Wells, 50, of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away
Monday, October 3 at his residence. Mr. Wells was born
February 28, 1955 in Defiance, Ohio, son of the late
Charles Sr. and Minnie Sue Wells. He was a coal miner.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Kathy
Wells.
Surviving are two sons, Phillip Jason Wells of David,
Ky., and Cody Michael Nelson of West Virginia; one
daughter, Darla Jarvis of Paintsville, Ky.; two
step-daughters, Dawn Michelle Spaulding of West Virginia
and Lisa Ann Patrick of McDowell, Ky.; one brother,
Charles R. Wells of Van Lear, Ky.; one sister, Lisa Gaye
Horn of Louisa, Ky.; and six grandchildren. The service
was officiated by David Wells, with burial in the Wells
Cemetery on Sycamore Creek at Van Lear, Ky. Arrangements
under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of
Paintsville, Ky.

Whitt, Edna -age 92,
of Oak Hill, Ohio, formerly of Betsy Layne, passed away
Friday, August 5, 2005, at Heartland Nursing Home, in
Oak Hill, Ohio. She was born July 9, 1913, in Endicott,
the daughter of the late Columbus Whitt and Vata
Blackburn Whitt. Ms. Whitt was a homemaker, and a member
of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors
include one brother, John Whitt of Burlington, Michigan;
and two sisters: Verdie Hamilton of Bay City, Michigan,
and Alma Payne of Southgate, Michigan. She was preceded
in death by her parents and two brothers: Glen Whitt and
William C. "Billy" Whitt; three sisters: Goldie
Blankenship, Ollie Crider, and Jessie Mae Smock; and one
nephew, Victor Whit Funeral services for Edna Whitt were
conducted Tuesday, August 9, at 11 a.m., at the Betsy
Layne Freewill Baptist Church, with Clergyman Tracy
Patton officiating. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial
Gardens, in Ivel, under the professional care of the
Hall Funeral Home, in Martin. Visitation was at the
funeral home Pallbearers: Ralph Roop, Dan Hamilton,
Marvin Williamson, Marshall Williamson, Randy
Blankenship, and Dwight Akers.

Williams, Audrey Kathleen
(Kathy) Fannin -73, of Isonville, died
Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Morgan County Appalachian
Regional Hospital, in West Liberty. Born Saturday,
August 6,1932, at Roscoe, in Elliott County, Kentucky,
Kathy was a daughter of the late James H. and Eva Susan
Hutchinson Fannin. She was a homemaker, a member of
Williams Creek Elk Fork Community Church, and Elk Fork
Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Eileen Fannin
Skaggs and Lillian Fay Fannin Barker, and one brother,
John Curtis Fannin. Survivors include her husband,
Walker Williams, Jr.; two daughters, Patricia and Paul
Williams Woosley, of Isonville, and Judy and Michael
Williams Daniel, Oil Springs; a granddaughter, Sarah and
David Gauze, of Louisa; one great grandson, Levi Walker
Gauze; three brothers, James Gary Fannin, of Isonville,
Phillip Carl and Virgie Fannin, Gordon Paul and Nadine
Fannin, all of Hebron, Indiana; one sister; Glenna and
Bob Pelfrey, Hebron, Indiana; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept.14, at Potter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bob
Williams, Rev. Mike Adkins, and Rev. Wendell Ison
officiating. Burial followed in the Hutchinson Cemetery,
at Isonville, with Potter Funeral Home, of West Liberty,

Williams, Aura Mae Tyree
-82 years 11 months and 28 days, of Linda Gayle
Drive , West Liberty, (Lacy Creek) died Saturday,
February 22, 2003, at Morgan County Appalachian Regional
Hospital in West Liberty. Born February 25, 1920, in
Morgan County, Kentucky, Mae was the daughter of the
late John Elza Tyre and Mamie Frances Black Tyree. She
was a wife and mother , and a member of the Baptist
faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by a daughter, Linda Gayle Williams-Bolin; and two
brothers , Gerald Tyree and Harold Tyree. Mae was untied
in marriage to Bradford Bee Williams on September
7,1943. They celebrated 59 years together. Survivors in
addition to her husband, Bradford Bee, include two sons,
Bradford Berry and Loretta Williams of Columbus, Ohio
and Hershall Desmond and Anita Williams of West Liberty,
Ky; six grandsons, Staff SGT. Brian E. Hart, Tony and
Beth Williams, James Hershall Williams, John Bradford
Williams, Nicholas Williams, and Brandon Cord Williams;
two granddaughters, Laura Ann Bolin-Nickell and Greg
Nickell, and Dakota Dawn Williams; one great grandson,
Taylor Dewayne Nickell; two great granddaughters,
Brianna Gayle Hart and Kayla Ann Williams; one sister,
Lola and Homer Patrick, of Beavercreek, Ohio; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Elsie Tyree of West Liberty, Ky.,
Velva Tyree of Trenton, Ohio, Katheryn and Roy Elam of

-In memory of Elzia Campbell Williams. She was born Aug
5, 1893 and died Dec 27, 1978. She was 85 yrs old. She
was the daughter of the late Walter and Winnie Holliday
Campbell. She was married to Stanley Williams who
survives. 2 sons, 3 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 3
great grandchildren.

1927-1996 Emory Darrell "Ed" Williams, 68, died February
19,1996, in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Williams was born
on September 17, 1927, in Fuget, the son of Brenford and
Ethel Williams. He is survived by one brother, Paul B.
Williams, of Royal Oaks, Michigan and one sister, Agues
Shakespeare of Naples, Florida. Funeral services
were held February 26,1996 at the Kersey Funeral Home in
Auburndale, Florida. Burial was at the Auburndale
Memorial Park.

Williams, Heath Gregory
-38, -Morehead-husband of Julie Burch Williams, of 70
Nesbitt Road - Clearfield passed away Thursday,
September 15, 2005 in the St. Claire Regional Medical
Center from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born on January 27, 1967 in Dayton, Ohio to Moody
Glenn Williams and Vicky Caudill White. He was the
manager of the Medicine Cabinet Pharmacy in Paintsville.
Heath graduated from Rowan County Senior High School in
1985 where he served as captain of the football team and
he attended Morehead State University. He was a business
man and was in the process of opening Spanky McDoogles
restaurant in Morehead. Heath was a member of the Sons
of the American Legion and he enjoyed sports, collecting
baseball cards and fishing. In addition to his wife,
Julie, whom he married on October 25, 1997, he is
survived by his two year old son, Dalton Heath Williams
at home, his father, Moody Glenn Williams and his wife,
Ramona of Lewis County, his mother, Vicky Caudill White
and her husband, Jim of Morehead, one brother, Steve
Williams of Morehead and his father and mother-in-law,
Tom and Paula Burch of Louisville. Funeral services will
be conducted at 11 am Mon., Sept. 19, 2005 at Lane-Stucky-Gray
Funeral Home with Wade Littleton officiating. Burial
will follow in the New Alfrey Cemetery at Farmers.
Friends may call at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home after
6 pm today (Sat.) and after 3 pm Sun. Serving as
pallbearers will be Damon Long, Jimmy Watson, James
Hunt, Lance Hollis, Greg May, Gary Lewis, Lucas Holloway
and Paul Brown.

Williams, Irene (Blair)
1921-1996 Oil Springs resident Irene Williams, 74, died
Saturday, February 6, 1996 at her residence. Mrs.
Williams was born December 18, 1921, in Johnson County,
the daughter of the late Lindsey and Cordie Webb Blair.
She was a member of the Low Gap United Baptist Church.
Also preceding her in death was her husband, Chester
Lewis Williams, on December 27,1979. Surviving are three
sons, Chester Franklin, Ronnie Dean and Danny Lewis
Williams, all of Oil Springs; one daughter, Connie Jean
Powers of Ashland; one brother, Vencil Blair of Oil
Springs; and seven grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Tuesday,
January 9, at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel, with
Elders Sammy Reed, Bruce Howard, Virgil Howard, Ray
McCarty and Ricky Curds officiating. Burial was in
Williams Cemetery at Oil Springs.

-daughter of the late Dave and Elizabeth
Fairchild Ross, was born Aug 13, 1899 and died June 4
1966 being 66 yrs, 9 mo, and 17 days old. Martha was
united in marriage to Raleigh Williams, Sept 21, 1921,
and to this union was born 5 children. 3 daughters and 2
sons. Mrs. Don Wright, J. N. Williams, Robert Williams,
Mrs. Wayne Conley and Mrs. Hollie Williams. Those
surviving besides her husband and children are 14
grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 2 brothers, German
Ross and Frank Ross, and 2 sisters, Sallie and Louna.

-A son of the late James S. Williams and Amanda
Williams: Raleigh was from a family of 6, 3 brothers and
2 sisters who preceded him in death. Raleigh was born
Feb 6 1904 and departed this life June 27, 1969, being
65 yrs, 3 mos and 22 days of age. On the 21st of Sept
1921, Raleigh was united in Matrimony to Martha Ross and
to this union was born 3 daughters and 2 sons. Martha
preceded him in death June 4, 1966. Then Raleigh was
married to Ada Jenkins. The date of marriage unknown.
Ada, his second wife survives. Others who survive are
his children: Mrs. Don Wright of Silverhill, KY, J. N.
Williams of Tekonsha, MI, W. R. Williams of Homer MI,
Mrs. Wayne Conley, Wheelersburg, KY, Mrs. R. P.
Williams, Wheelersburg, KY and 15 grandchildren and 2
great grandchildren.

February 18 1996 at Paul B. Hall
Regional Medical Center. Mr. Williams was bore June 18,
1923, in Johnson County , the son of the late Albert and
Nineavah Stapleton Williams. He vas a retired steel
worker and Farmer and Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife Tera Salyers Williams; six sons
Sidney Williams of Meally, Tennessee Williams of Etna,
Buddy, Samuel and Benny Williams, all of Flat Gap, and
Tim Williams of Manila; seven daughters, Edith Cox of
Denver, Violet Castle and Lola Short, both of Sitka,
Lila Cottle and Rachel Frazier, both of Flat Gap, Lorene
Horn of Manilla and Darlene Music of Staffordsville; one
brother, Sherwood Williams of Flat Gap; one sister, Lena
Teague of Dayton, Ohio; and 25 grandchildren, four
great-grand- children, five step-grandchildren and two
step- great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
today, Wednesday, February 21, at 1 p.m., at
Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Harold VanHoose
and Keith
Horn officiating. Burial will be in Williams Family
Cemetery at Flat Gap.

Wright, William Arthur
-88, of Ky. 519, West Liberty, Kentucky, passed
away Thursday, August 25,2005, at Wilmington Nursingand
Rehabilitation Center Wilmington, Ohio. He was born July
26, 1917, in Morgan County, Kentucky, and was the son of
the late Waller and Nora Whitely Wright. Besides his
parents, he was preceded in death ,by his first wife
Irene Sloss Wnght; his second wife, Myrtle Petitt
Wright, and one son, James Danny Wright. Survivors
include two daughters, Dorothy Cassity of Clearfield,
Kentucky, and Ann Lou Perry of West Liberty, Kentucky;
one half-brother, Melvin Wright of West Liberty,
Kentucky; four half-sisters, Ella Howard of White Oak,
Kentucky, Martha Jones of Albany, Ohio, Dale Pike and
Catherine Ball, both of New Carlisle, Ohio;13
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and four
great-great grandchildren. Mr. Wright was a retired
factory worker. He had been a member of the Freewill
Baptist Church since 1974.Funeral services were
conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2005, at
Northcutt &Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel in
Morehead with the Rev. Norman Wright officiating. Burial
was in the Clarence Smith Cemetery on Middle Fork in
Morgan County. Serving as pallbearers were Timmy Sargent,
Dewayne Weaver, David Caskey, Daniel Moore, Bobby
Vernatter, Lenviel Perry II, and William Claude Perry.
Arrangements were by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals,
Morehead, Kentucky.
