Lawson, Ella Igo -102, of Igo Ridge, Wellington, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Edgewood Estates Nursing Home, in Frenchburg.Born October 19, 1902: in Menifee County, Kentucky, Ella was a daughter of the late Charlie Igo and Rhoda Lawson Igo. She was a homemaker, and charter member of Korea Church of God, at Wellington. In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Otha Lawson; and two daughters, Deloris Lawson and Dorothy Patrick. .Survivors include three sons, Vernal (Buster) Lawson, of Dayton, Ohio, Shirley Lawson, of Wellington, and Charles Lawson, of Winchester; one daughter, Pauline Boyd, of Deerfield Beach, Florida; one sister, Eula Elliot, of Florence; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and3, great, great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3, at Korea Church of God, at Wellington, with Rev. David Hale and Rev. Jess Brewer officiating. Burial followed in the Back Cemetery, at Wellington, with Menifee Home For Funerals, of Frenchburg, in charge ofarrangements. Pallbearers were Glendal Hale, Vernal Hale, Donald Hale, Steve Smallwood, Steve Lawson, Steven J. Lawson, and Timmy
Smallwood.

Layne, Landon -67, of Tan Ridge Road, Frenchburg, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at his .residence. Born November 30, 1937, in Pike County, Kentucky, Landon was a son of the late Charles Franklin Layne and Hazel Lydia May Layne. He was a retired employee of CSX Railway, in Paintsville, Ky., having worked 33 years as a carman. Landon was a U.S. Air Force veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wanna Layne. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Dilley Layne; a step-son, Bradley Johnson, of Grove City, Ohio; two grandchildren, Brandon Johnson and Sherri Johnson; special neighborhood children, Tanner Smith, Silas Ingram, and Maggie Smith; and many special friends. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept.12, at Menifee Home For Funerals, with Rev. Delbert Coffey officiating. Burial followed in the Hess Family Cemetery, Corner Ridge Road, Mariba, with Menifee Home For Funerals, of Frenchburg, in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Don Hess, Timothy Smith, Brad Johnson, Scott Jones, Silas Ingram, and Tanner Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Layne, Kennem Egelston, Eldon Karshner, Sherman McDonald, James Hess, Brandon
Johnson, and Brandon Jones.

Leedy, Arnold Bill -41, of Kimper died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005 at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1964 in Pike County, the son of Amy Williams Leedy and the late Elmer Leedy. He was a master logger for Mays Brother Lumber. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Leedy of Kimper, two sons, Seth and Ethan Leedy of Kimper, daughter Alicia Leedy of Kimper, three brothers, Arthur Leedy of Martin County, Larry Leedy of Stone, David Leedy of Hardy, six sisters, Sarah Rose of Phyllis, Sally Munday of Tiffin, Ohio, Mary Farley of Lebanon, Jacqueline Robinson of Pikeville, Sylvia Varney of Crossville, Tenn., Shirley Shafari of Colorado Springs.Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the Community Funeral Home with Garrett May officiating. Burial will be at the Justice Family Cemetery.

Lemaster, Troy -1920-2005-Graveside services were held Thursday, August 11, 1 p.m. at the Union Township Cemetery, at Milford Center, Ohio, for Troy Lemaster, 85, of Paintsville, formerly of Milford Center, Ohio, who passed away Monday, August 8 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky. Mr. Lemaster was born April 1, 1920 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Thomas J. and Lillie Crislip Lemaster. He was a former security officer with the Wallace-Murray Co. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Estep. Surviving are his two daughters, Alice Stambaugh of Paintsville, Ky., and Lillie M. (William D.) Stambaugh of Sitka, Ky.; a half-sister, Gladys Davison of South Shore, Ky.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The service was officiated by the Rev. William C. Jones. The Ingram Funeral Home of Marysville, Ohio was in charge of arrangements. Local arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville, Ky.

Lewis, John Maxwell ‘Mac’ -1925-2005-Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home for John Maxwell “Mac” Lewis, 80, of West Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, August 2 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. Mr. Lewis was born February 7, 1925 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Silvan G. and Laura Reynolds Lewis. He was retired from Capitol Tire Company of Auxier, Ky. Surviving are his wife, Martha Lewis of West Van Lear, Ky.; three sons, Jim (Jeanie) Lewis of Louisville, Ky., Dave (Karen) Lewis of Columbus, Ohio, and Carl (Marlene) Lewis of Van Lear, Ky.; three daughters, Deloris (Sam) Hicks and Debbie (Tony) Hatfield, both of Paintsville, Ky., and Johnna (John) Robinson of Nicholasville, Ky.; one step-son, Danny Harman of Frankfort, Ky.; three sisters, Josephine Howard (Claude) Brown, and Mary Lou Stafford, both of Lexington, Ky., and
Gladys Burke of Warsaw, Ky.; and 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The service will be officiated by the Revs. To be Wheeler, Donald R. Caudill and Virgil Goble Jr., with burial in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky. Arrangements under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home of Paintsville, Ky.

Lloyd, Jerry F. -1933-2005Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 1 p.m. at the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel for Jerry F. Lloyd, 72, of Denver, Ky., who passed away Saturday, September 17 at Riverview Nursing Home in Prestonsburg, Ky. Mr. Lloyd was born April 24, 1933 in Indiana. He was a sawmill employee, and a Free Will Baptist. The service will be officiated by Boone Allen, Ervin Allen Jr. and Bethel Bolen, with burial following in the Spradlin Cemetery at Denver, Ky. Mason, Margaret Kazee -1919-2005   Funeral services were held Monday, August 1, 1 p.m. at the Mayo Cemetery, Paintsville, Ky., for Margaret Kazee Mason, 86, of Paintsville, who passed away Saturday, July 30 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Ky. Mrs. Mason was born February 23, 1919 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Edgar P. and Flossie Borders Kazee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, A. P. Mason. Surviving are one daughter, Cassy Mason Preston of Paintsville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Lesley (Todd) Abbott of Ashland, Ky., and Heath (Brandy) Preston of Staffordsville, Ky.; one brother, Robert B. Mason of Houston, Texas; one sister, Pauline Williams of Paintsville, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren. The service was officiated by John Boyd. McCarty, David Keith-1952-2005-Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for David Keith McCarty, 53, of Oil Springs, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, August 30 at his residence. Mr. McCarty was born March 11, 1952 in Paintsville, Ky., son of the late Clyde and Gusta Blanton McCarty. He was a truck driver. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Lester Leon McCarty. Surviving are his wife, Marvetta Carol McCarty of Oil Springs, Ky.; two sons, David Jeffery McCarty of Paintsville, Ky., and Gary Dewayne Marcum of Point Pleasant, Ohio; one daughter, Kelly Jean Castle of Wittensville, Ky.; three brothers, Dewey Adriel McCarty of Catlettsburg, Ky., James Arthur McCarty of Oil Springs, Ky., and Charles Edward McCarty of Sparr, Fla.; one sister, Karen Joyce Ousley of Oil Springs, Ky.; and three grandchildren. McGuire, Barbara Sue -40, of Winchester, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at Clark Regional Hospital, in Winchester. Born December 20, 1964, in Morgan County, Kentucky, Barbara was a daughter of Imogene Adkins McGuire, of Winchester, and the late Chalmer Robert McGuire. She was disabled, and had been a member of Cow Branch Primitive Baptist Church since 1978.In addition to her father, Barbara was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Audie and Clara Adkins; and paternal grand-parents, Chalmer and Susie McGuire. Survivors in addition to her mother include her step-father, Larry Rogers, of Jeffersonville; one son, Bobby Joe Hays, of Lexington; two sisters, Chrystal Rogers and husband, William Burchett, of Means, and Ramona Campanella, of Lexington; three nieces, Alexis Kelly, and Sarah. She was blessed to have a host of wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel, with Bro.Harry Flannery and Bro. Vernon Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the Ezel Cemetery, at Ezel, with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home, of West Liberty, in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Chris Riggsby, Kenneth Adkins, Jr., Curtis Adkins, Will Adkins, Will Burchett, and Gary Wolfenbarger. Honorary pallbearers were family and friends.

McKenzie, Lottie (Wheeler) 1927-1996 Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Lottie Marie "Ted" McKenzie, 68, who died Monday, Feb.05,1996 at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Floyd Co Ky. Mrs. McKenzie was born November 3, 1927, in Johnson County, the daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Picklesimer Wheeler. She was retired from the housekeeping department at the Paintsville Hospital. She was also preceded in death by Harold Douglas McKenzie, on October 16,1995. Surviving are, one son, Garry McKenzie of Paintsville; two daughters. Bessie Rose McKenzie of Winchester and Debra Lynn Blanton of Waverly, Ohio; one step brother, Joe Castle of Wurtland; three sisters, Mable Castle of Paintsville. Dorcas VanHoose of Meally anal Phyllis Brown of Catlettsburg; three stepdaughters, Marie Castle of Oklahoma and Mae Little and Darlene Castle, both of Flatwoods; and six grandchildren, Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 7, at Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Don Fraley officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Johnson Co Ky.

Mollett, Miza (Borders) 1907-1996 Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 28, for Miza Mollet, 88, who died Sunday, February 25, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Mollet was born October 27, 1907, in Lawrence County, the daughter of the late Forest and Pricie Burton  Borders.  She was a member of the Thealka Freewill Baptist Church. Also preceding her death were two husband, Augustus Bowens and Sammy Mollett. Surviving are one son, Herman Bowens of Paintsville; one sister, Mary Daniels of Paintsville; and several nephews and nieces. Officiating at services at Preston Funeral Home Chapel was Jack Woody. Burial was in Borders Cemetery at Ulysses.

Moore, Maudie Turner -96, of Wayland, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, McDowell.
She was born at Langley, Sept. 22, 1908, a daughter of the late Tom and Judy Salisbury Turner. She was a homemaker and member of the Steeles Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, Wayland. She is survived by five daughters, Edith Moore Hansford of Wayland, Helen Green of Pittsburgh, Thelma J. Embery of Cannonsburg, Joan Slone of Elyria, Ohio, Barbara Jean Weaver of Amherst, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Bradley Cemetery, Dema. Arrangements are under direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin.

Morris,  Robert & Gleedie Morris--Robert Morris, 68, and his wife, Gleedie Faye Birchwell ;Morris, 57, of Ezel, died Friday, August 26, 2005, of injuries received in an automobile crash on Highway 460, at Greer. Mr. Morris was born September 17, 1936, in Perry County, Kentucky, a son of the late George Morris and Cora Caudill Morris. He was retired from A.K. Steel, in Middletown, Ohio, was a member of Pekin Pentecostal Church, at Ezel, and U.S. Army veteran. Robert is survived by two daughters, Barbara and Todd Hyde, of Middletown, Ohio, and Lisa and Billy :Barnes, of Tazewell, Tennessee; two sons, Robert and Doreen Morris, Jr., and George Morris, both of Middletown, Ohio; 4 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; a half brother, Paul Morris, of Aberdeen, Ohio; 2 nieces; 1 nephew; and a host of family and friends. Mrs. Morris was born March 28, 1947, in Bath County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Emery Birchwe11 and Lona Burton Birchwell. She was retired from a Dry Cleaning Company and was a member of Pekin Pentecostal Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis Adkins. Survivors include three sisters, Athlene Bowman and Imogene Dyer, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Della Harper, of Ezel; three brothers, Charles Birchwell and Hubert Birchwell, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Frank Birchwell, of Frenchburg; two nieces, Brenda Napier, of Mount Sterling, and Linda Adkins, of Means; and a host of nieces and nephews. Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Morris were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 29 at Herald and Stewart and Halsey Chapel, with Rev. Sammy Vancleave, Rev. Dave Bowling and Bro. Harry Fannery officiating. Burial followed in South Fork Cemetery, at Malone, with Herald and Stewart and Halsey Funeral Home, of West Liberty, in charge of arrangements. Friends and relatives were pallbearers.

Motley, Ann King -86, widow of Paul Motley, West Liberty, KY, died Wed. June 29, 2005 at the A.R. H. Hospital after an extended illness. She had taught elementary school for 30 years in Morgan, Menifee and Montgomery Counties. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She is survived by three children: Pat (Jack) Motley-Hill, John (Barbara) Motley and Paul David (LaDonna) Motley, all of West Liberty; two stepdaughters; Jean Motley Walden, Trenton, OH, Paula Motley Cox, Pulaski, VA; one brother, Edward King, Mt. Newsome, Emmogene -74, of Weeksbury, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. She was born in Floyd County, Dec. 3, 1930, the daughter of the late Grant and Jane Johnson. She was a homemaker/domestic. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jamie Maynard. She is survived by three sons, Ronnie Newsome and Wayne Newsome, both of Weeksbury, Lenny Newsome of Melvin; one daughter, Kathy Hall of Melvin; and nine grandchildren, Billy Wayne Newsome, Brian Newsome, Kennady Newsome, Derek Newsome, Tyler Newsome, Randy Newsome, Marissa Newsome, Dakota Newsome, and Jennifer Newsome. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church with Louie Farrow, John Allen, Dale Williamson, Billy Williamson, and Ellis Holbrook officiating. Nichols, Edward "Doc" -of Paintsville, a veteran of World War II, was born June 12, 1922, and departed this earth on Sat., Oct. 30, 2004. He was the son of the late Bill and Hulda Sparks Nichols of Thealka, KY. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rusha Witten Nichols, and their four children: Rita McKenzie Allen and Bob Allen, of Grove City, Ohio; Carl Edward Nichols and Marcia Brooks Nichols, of Yorktown, Virginia; William Thomas Nichols and BJ Nichols, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; and Ruby Dianna Carr and Mike Carr, of Lexington. He is survived by one sister: Betty Jo Bradley, of Ypsilanti, Michigan; one brother-in-law Thomas J. Witten and Ruby Carol Witten, of Sitka, Kentucky; and a special family member: Brenda Williams. Doc, a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was baptized into the Church of Christ and became a Christian in May, 1952, at Sitka, KY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Scott McKenzie and Sheila; Patrick Nichols and Deanie; Kimberly Brooke Nichols; Andraya Preston and Guthrie; Tommy Nichols, Daedra Kelly, and Alena Nichols; three step grandchildren: Bobby Allen and Melissa; Jennifer Hamaker and Wayne; and Matthew Carr; four great-grandchildren: Tyler McKenzie, Rebecca Preston, Dylan Preston, and Stormi Nichols; and four step great-grandchildren: J.K. Culp, Coty Culp, Russell Allen, and James Allen. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Mavis Hammond, Mary Allen, Alice Waugh, and Martha Nichols; and by two brothers: Delbert Nichols, and Donald Nichols. Pallbearers will be Scott McKenzie, Patrick Nichols, Tommy Nichols, Brian Waugh, Joe Witten, Kenny Witten, Mike Carr and Matthew Carr. Visitation at Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville, Kentucky, from 3-9 pm on Tues., Nov. 2. Services conducted Nov. 3, at 10 am by Preacher Joe Hill of the Van Lear Church of Christ at the Preston Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery.
